The City of Tshwane will perform essential maintenance on Thursday, 3 April, which may temporarily disrupt water supply in several areas. The planned connection to the water network will occur along Rosalyn Avenue in Waterkloof Glen from 8:00 to 16:00.
Areas expected to be affected by the water interruption
Residents and businesses in Ashley Gardens, De Beer, and extensions of Newlands and Waterkloof Glen should prepare for possible water shortages. Additionally, Hatfield Christian Church, Hatfield Christian School, Kingswood Village, and Summit Place may also experience water interruptions.
“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the above-mentioned work,” the City of Tshwane stated.
Water-Saving Measures Encouraged
The city urged residents to make water conservation part of their daily routine, regardless of planned water interruptions. The city advised against using hosepipes or sprinkler systems for irrigation between 6:00 and 18:00 and discouraged washing vehicles with hosepipes or filling swimming pools.
“Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted,” the city emphasised.
“Where possible, water saving devices should be installed.”
Tips for Reducing Water Usage
Furthermore, residents in Tshwane are encouraged to install low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilet cisterns to support sustainable water use. Planting indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs, sweeping driveways instead of hosing them down, and collecting rainwater for reuse can further reduce consumption.
Also, covering swimming pools to prevent evaporation and turning off taps while brushing teeth are easy but effective ways to save water
With water conservation becoming increasingly important, how can residents adopt more sustainable habits to ensure long-term water security?
