Besides the executive order that led to a freeze in all aid activities overseas by the United States for 90 days pending a review, President Donald Trump also issued another executive order that sought to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Google Maps has also changed the name of the water body, which was earlier known as the Gulf of Mexico, to the Gulf of America for all US-based users of Google Maps. For users in Mexico, Google Maps will still show the water body as the Gulf of Mexico, while users in other parts of the world will see both names.
Donald Trump Issues Controversial Executive Order Renaming Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America’, Google Maps Implements Change
Google incorporated the changes following its long-term policy of applying name changes if they have been updated in official government sources. Google integrates the data provided by the Geographic Names Information System, managed by the United States Geological Survey, into its mapping services.
Google also revealed last month that it is changing the name of the nation’s highest peak back to Mount McKinley from Denali following Trump’s order. For the unversed, the peak was renamed Denali in 2015 by Barack Obama to honour the region’s native population.
However, the change was still not reflected on Google Maps until Tuesday. Google effected the changes after an executive order by President Donald Trump immediately after taking office to restore America’s greatness.
The order also ridiculed Obama’s decision to rename the peak and called the move an insult to McKinley’s life, accomplishments, and sacrifice.

There are many similarities in the policies of William McKinley, who had served as the 25th President of the United States, and Donald Trump, including imposing tariffs on imports to further American interests. He was assassinated, and Trump views it as an attack on the values and success of the United States.
The name changes have also received approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration, which issued a notice on Monday regarding the geographical name changes.
The agency, in a statement, said,
“Please be advised that the FAA is in the process of updating our data and charts to show a name change from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and a name change from Denali to Mount McKinley.”
Something similar was also enforced by the US Coast Guard, which guards the coastal waters of the US, including the water body that has been renamed as the Gulf of America. It has incorporated the changes in its public notices.
The latest move will not be viewed kindly by Mexico, especially given the downturn in relations with the US. President Donald Trump has accused Mexico of not doing enough to stem the influx of illegal immigrants from its borders into the US.
Trump has already stated that he intends to build a wall along the US-Mexico border and also deploy the US Army to stop illegal immigrants.
