Twelve people have been injured and several are in critical condition after a gunman tossed a grenade into a bar in Grenoble, France.
The incident occurred at a working-class bar shortly after 8pm on Wednesday, local authorities report.
‘A person came in, threw a grenade, didn’t say a word, it seems, and then fled,’ said prosecutor François Touret de Coucy.
The assailant was also reported to be carrying a Kalashnikov rifle, although they did not use it during the attack.
All of the victims were transported to the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment, BFMTV reports.
Grenoble mayor Eric Piolle condemned the attack in the ‘strongest terms’ and thanked the emergency services for their ‘rapid intervention’.
Mayor Piolle said the prefecture extended its ‘full support to the victims and their loved ones’ and condemned what it called ‘this cowardly and criminal act or unprecedented violence’.
