A new Netflix series has stormed the most-watched charts with 8,800,000 views in just four days.

The global hit is the Swedish crime drama series The Åre Murders, which is based on a popular series of books by author Viveca Sten. 10 million copies have been sold worldwide, and its literary success is translating on to the small screen. It is proving popular not just back home, but all across the world.

The Nordic noir follows Hanna Ahlander (Carla Sehn), a Stockholm detective suspended from duty, who seeks solace in the idyllic but eerie ski resort town of Åre.

Her plans for relaxation in the five-episode limited series are disrupted quite severely when she becomes involved in investigating the mysterious disappearance of a young woman named Amanda.

Teaming up with local detective Daniel Lindskog (Kardo Razzazi), they delve into the case, uncovering hidden secrets within the tight-knit community.

After bingeing the show, viewers have shared their glowing reviews online and encouraged the people who haven’t yet watched to give it a go.

Debeshi Gooptu weighed in: ‘The Åre Murders (Åremorden/Swedish) on Netflix was good. I hope there is a second season soon.’

‘I enjoyed it. Could have used a couple more episodes per case, but better than to have it drag and feel slow,’ wrote Electrical-Map-1500 on Reddit.

‘I hope it gets another series,’ shared Dense_Advice_3854.
