Everton are waiting on news of Iliman Ndiaye after he suffered a knee injury in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.

The winger lasted just 25 minutes of the dramatic 2-2 draw at Goodison Park before having to be replaced by Jack Harrison.

The Senegal international was clearly distraught as he covered his face while limping off the field, comforted by teammate Abdoulaye Doucoure.

They were worrying scenes for Everton boss David Moyes as Ndiaye has been one of their standout performers this season.

The Scot gave an update of his status after the match, but was not yet sure of the severity of the knee problem he suffered.

‘We think he has possibly kicked the ground and may have jarred his knee or opened it up, we are not sure yet,’ said the Toffees boss of his winger.

‘We don’t know how serious it is but we will look tomorrow.’

The injury came about in a strange way, with Dominik Szoboszlai challenging Ndiaye but it was the Everton man kicking the pitch instead of the ball that seemed to do damage to his own knee.

The 24-year-old, who signed from Marseille last summer, would be a big loss for the Toffees, if he does spend some time out, after impressive form this season.

Ndiaye has scored six Premier League goals and has regularly been Everton’s most dangerous attacking weapon in a season which saw them really struggle for goals until David Moyes’ return to the dugout.

Any absence for the former Sheffield United man would be of serious concern as Everton are already struggling with a number of injuries, especially in attack.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are all currently out, leaving Moyes’ options up top very limited.

As the clash with Liverpool was a rearranged fixture it is a busy month for the Toffees, who face Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Brentford in the Premier League before the end of February.
