Manchester United have confirmed Amad Diallo is out ‘for a number of weeks’ as a result of an ankle injury suffered in training.

The Ivory Coast international has been United’s stand-out player since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford in November, bagging nine goals and laying on seven assists this season.

On Saturday, the 22-year-old dropped the bombshell he will be sidelined ‘for some time’ after picking up a knock in training.

It leaves United in a full-blown injury crisis for their visit to Tottenham this afternoon with Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer also missing the trip to north London.

Reports have suggested Diallo is likely to miss the rest of the season and will likely undergo surgery next week.

United’s official statement has offered some faint hope he can still have a role to play in the 2024-25 campaign, however.

While there is no clear timeline for his return, United say the winger is ‘now expected to be out of action for a number of weeks.’

Diallo joins Lisandro Martinez, out for the rest of the season, on the sidelines with Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Jonny Evans also still unavailable.

‘Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season,’ Amad told his followers on social media on Saturday evening.

‘Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury.

‘I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.’

Diallo’s absence leaves United short in attack having allowed Marcus Rashford and Antony to leave on loan to join Aston Villa and Real Betis respectively in the January transfer window.

It leaves Amorim with the options of Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.

Only Zirkzee has found the back of the net since the turn of the year with the trio managing just eight between them all season in the league.

Only the Premier League’s bottom three Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton have scored less than United, who have managed just 28 in 24 games, shipping 34 in the process.
