The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on February 19, 2025, to commemorate the annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
This decision was made through a notification by the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department. As a result, all government and semi-government offices, along with educational institutions across Sindh, will remain closed on that day.
The Urs is celebrated to mark the death anniversary of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar and takes place on the 18th of Sha’aban in the Islamic lunar calendar.
The 771st annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA) will commence today (Saturday) in Sehwan Sharif, marking the beginning of three days of festivities.
Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori will formally inaugurate the Urs by laying a chador on the saint’s grave. Meanwhile, the Jamshoro district administration has announced that all necessary arrangements for the event have been finalized.
To ensure security, approximately 4,000 police personnel will be deployed throughout the town, along with additional measures for traffic management on highways.
Furthermore, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has been directed to suspend load-shedding during the Urs. Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) will be restricted from using the Indus Highway between Jamshoro and Sehwan.
This event is significant not only for its religious importance but also for its cultural impact. It attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from Pakistan.
The festivities on urs include various cultural events such as traditional Sindhi wrestling (Malakhro) and Dhamal dance performances
