Ruben Amorim has been told one of his players is not ‘Manchester United quality’ after the deflating Premier League defeat to Tottenham.

United’s dismal run under Amorim continued on Sunday as they lost 1-0 to struggling Spurs.

James Maddison’s first-half goal was enough to separate the sides and condemn Manchester United to a 12th league defeat this season.

United also dropped one place to 15th in the Premier League table, behind an Everton side who were in a relegation scrap and sacked Sean Dyche just a few weeks ago.

Ex-Premier League striker Clinton Morrison was underwhelmed by United’s performances in north London and said £36.5m signing Joshua Zirkzee was not at the level to play for the Red Devils.

Zirkzee started for depleted Manchester United but struggled to make an impact, missing a huge chance when he headed wide late on.

‘I’m not being disrespectful, but some of these players who put on a United shirt are not of Manchester United quality,’ Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live. ‘It’s so poor from Joshua Zirkzee.

‘Biggest thing you take is the three points and the clean sheet. Man United will be disappointed. Alejandro Garnacho was the most lively, but it’s a big three points for Ange.

‘Ruben Amorim has a lot of injuries, but he can’t wait to get to the summer. Sell some players and bring in his own players.

‘United fans need to suffer before it gets good because who can make a big difference?

‘There’s not many I can pick out. The players who come in for Ange Postecoglou made them a better team.

‘Be careful what you wish for. Manchester United fans complained about Scott McTominay and many would take him back in their team.’

Meanwhile, Jamie Redknapp said it was going to take ‘a lot of time and patience’ for Manchester United to turn things around after their latest humbling defeat.

‘They are so short of top players, it is going to need a lot of time and patience – the problem is, when you are a club of the enormity of Man Utd, you don’t want to hear that,’ the ex-Tottenham and England midfielder told Sky Sports.

‘It’s very difficult to watch if you are a Manchester United fan.’

Amorim was disappointed his United side drew a blank at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite creating a number of chances, including two from Alejandro Garnacho.

‘It was the difference of the game, they scored and we didn’t,’ he said. ‘We had the opportunities.

‘We had situations in transitions, trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn’t.

‘We want to recover the players, I think we can recover some players for the next game. We have to be together to finish the season and start over.’
