A car crashed off an overpass onto a busy motorway – but the traffic appeared unfazed by the spinning vehicle.

The car fell from a bridge onto the five-lane motorway in Sacramento, California, on Monday.

Footage shows the dramatic crash that resembled an action film scene as the white car went through the barrier before spinning in the air and landing on its bonnet.

It then rolled further before ending up on the central reservation on its roof, narrowly missing other cars as they cruised on the northbound Interstate 5 motorway.

The driver narrowly escaped alive and they were rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

A driver whose dashcam captured the crash said the moment was ‘pretty wild.’

Kyman Jeung told CBS News that ‘if any of us were a few seconds quicker, it really could have ended a lot worse than it did.’

The cause of the crash is not yet known, but the road was closed for hours during an investigation.

Interstate 5 known as just I-5 has a total of eight to ten lanes. It is a major freeway running through California, Oregon and Washington state.

It connects cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, Stockton and Sacramento.
