AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- Medical College of Georgia is studying how age and obesity have an effect on brain health.
Studies have shown that high fat diets can affect your brain health over time.
“High fat diets or high carbohydrate diets at an early age has a huge negative impact because all of these effects are cumulative and the longer they go on, then the more damage they do,” said Medical College of Georgia professor, Charles Isales.
What and how much you eat can have a major impact.
“But what we see happening is that many of the systems in our bodies start functioning less efficiently, and this result intensifies, there’s many different causes. One of the most important courses people have identified to date is the diet. It has a huge impact,” Isales said.
But there are ways to protect your brain.
“Diet and exercise are important to institute early? So those of us who are parents, I think it’s important that we have our children involved in sports. You know, take them away from their telephones or get them involved with things on the outside. Not going for the high sugar snacks, going for the fast food option, but not trying to get them focused and healthy at an early age,” said Isales.
