Over 75,000 Canadians Petition to Revoke Elon Musk’s Citizenship Over Sovereignty Concerns

A petition in Canada calling for the revocation of Elon Musk’s citizenship has gained significant traction, amassing over 75,980 signatures as of February 23, 2025.

The petition, initiated by Qualia Reed and sponsored by New Democratic Party MP Charlie Angus, accuses Musk of undermining Canadian sovereignty due to his ties with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

It argues that Musk has used his influence to affect Canadian elections and engage in activities detrimental to the national interest.

The petition states that Musk, who holds Canadian citizenship through his mother, a Saskatchewan native, has become a member of a foreign government that threatens Canada’s independence.

It specifically references Trump’s past threats to impose tariffs on Canadian goods and his controversial remarks about Canada potentially becoming the 51st state.

The petition is set to close on June 20, 2025, after which it will be formally presented to the House of Commons. Although it has garnered substantial public support, there is currently no indication that the Canadian government plans to act on it or pursue the revocation of Musk’s citizenship.
