The World Grand Prix has a glamorous new venue in Hong Kong and gets underway on Tuesday as we approach the business end of the snooker season.

The brand new Kai Tak Arena will host the tournament, with up to 5,000 fans able to watch the top 32 players on the one-year ranking list this season.

The event was held in Leicester last year and the move to Hong Kong has seen a huge boost in prize money with the total prize fund up from £380,000 last year to £700,000.

Ronnie O’Sullivan won the World Grand Prix last year but will not be in Hong Kong to defend his title, pulling out of the event on Saturday due to medical reasons.

Number 33 on the one-year ranking list, Hossein Vafaei, takes the Rocket’s place and will take on Si Jiahui in the opening round.

Judd Trump has been runner-up in both the last two editions of the event and would love to get his hands on the trophy this time round after taking up residency in Hong Kong in recent months.

Recent Welsh Open champion Mark Selby and Saturday’s World Open winner John Higgins are also among the high profile field.
