Kaizer Chiefs to REWARD forgotten defender with new contract?

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to offer defender Happy Mashiane with a new contract.

The 27-year-old has been with Amakhosi for six years but has found minutes hard to come by under Nasreddine Nabi. With the injuries of Edmilson Dove, Bradley Cross and departure of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Mashaine managed to find gametime and impressed the Tunisian coach.

According to SoccerLaduma, the long-serving defender is set to stay with the team next season and could be rewarded with a contract extension.

Kaizer Chiefs coach happy with Mashiane

“Things are apparently look good for Happy [Mashiane],” a source told the publication.

“Not just for this season but even further as the coach is now believed to be putting trust in him in that left-hand position. Coach Nabi is happy to have him for a longer time.”

“That has also brought confidence to him as a player. Yes, his contract is running until June 2026, that means this gives him hope that may not be loaned out or released soon. The coach is happy with him and that is very important for the player.”

Mashiane has a great 2020/21 season under Gavin Hunt where Kaizer Chiefs finished runner-ups in the CAF Champions League. He played over 30 matches in all competitions that season. Under Arthur Zwane, the midfielder/defender also got some minutes but never rediscovered his form.

In the last two seasons, Mashiane has only played 12 matches for Kaizer Chiefs. It remains to be seen if he will feature regularly under Nabi for the rest of the campaign.

Should Chiefs sell Mashiane or give him more chances?
