India captain Rohit Sharma has quelled retirement rumours by stating that he has no plans to retire from One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
This clarification came on Sunday after India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where they defeated New Zealand in the final. Rohit emphasized that he wants to ensure no further speculation about his retirement spreads, confirming his commitment to continue playing ODIs for India.

Although not questioned about his retirement plans, Rohit preemptively dismissed any speculation by concluding his post-match press conference with, “One more thing, I’m not retiring from this format, just to ensure no rumours spread moving forward.”
Rohit’s decision to address these rumours follows his earlier retirement from T20 Internationals after India’s T20 World Cup win in Barbados last year.
Despite speculation about his future in ODIs, Rohit has made it clear that he intends to continue playing and potentially lead India into the 2027 ODI World Cup.
This announcement aligns with his previous statements about wanting to play until the next ODI World Cup, which he considers a significant goal.
Rohit’s leadership and performance have been crucial for India’s recent successes, including back-to-back ICC trophy wins without a loss.
