A new documentary is set to claim that Marvel creator Stan Lee endured ‘mistreatment, manipulation and betrayal’ in the last years of his life.

The comic book writer who wrote the Marvel series, including characters such as Spiderman, Iron Man, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, died in 2018 at the age of 95.

A new documentary, Stan Lee: The Final Chapter, explores the final years of Lee’s life and comes from Jon Bolerjack, who worked closely with Lee from 2014.

The synopsis claims that the documentary is a ‘rollercoaster of drama and duplicity’ that looks at how Lee ‘landed in the middle of a scandal as wild as any superhero saga.’

The documentary claims that as Lee’s health was declining, he was still taking part in autographed memorabilia and photo opportunities, which created money that was never seen by Lee or his family.

‘The events are chronicled by filmmaker Jon Bolerjack who became an assistant to Stan and a fixture of his inner circle.’

‘Jon gained unprecedented access and filmed everything he saw. What he uncovered was a thriving market where Stan’s signatures and memorabilia were converted into huge piles of cash and rival hucksters double-crossed each other to control Stan’s fortune,’ reads the synopsis.

‘After years of collecting this footage, he’s ready to share this shockingly and truly heartbreaking story with the world.’

The documentary also visits the various accounts of elder abuse rumours that plagued the Marvel legend in the final years of his life.

Bolerjack has also unveiled a Kickstarter campaign to complete work on the project – which he claims he has already poured a small fortune into.

The campaign has currently accumulated over £20,000 with a goal of £232,738.

‘But to do that, he needs your help to get it over the finish line. We hope you’ll be a part of the journey to honor Stan’s legacy,’ he claims in the campaign.

This raised some eyebrows from fans who questioned why this story is coming out now, so many years after the writer’s death.

‘real-life villains did stan lee dirtier than any comic book supervillain,’ said debayo_xx

‘They turned Stan Lee’s life into a superhero story. Except the villains were real,’ said rezalearnedit.
