Kaizer Chiefs suffer major injury blow

Following Kaizer Chiefs’ progression into the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, the Glamour Boys are back in Betway Premiership action at 19:30 on Wednesday when they host Cape Town City at FNB stadium.

Ahead of this match, it has been confirmed that new striker Tashreeq Morris is still on the sidelines for a little bit longer due to injury, while Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane have also been ruled out.

In addition, it’s reported by Goal.com that defender Rushwin Dortley will have to undergo knee surgery, and is set to miss the rest of the season.

After missing the last two games, Dortley was undergoing an injury assessment, but it’s proved to be far more serious than expected.

Given Msimango is now expected to continue filling in at the back, having done a decent job over the last couple of games.

Kaizer Chiefs now face a must-win match

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s match, skipper Yusuf Maart said there was no shortage of motivation.

“The win on Saturday gives us confidence, and I want to thank the fans for the amazing support they gave us in Gqeberha,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, adding, “We are aware that City beat us last time we played them so we are extra motivated to go there and put the effort in to win.”

“It’s not easy to prepare for a team like City because they can play different styles of football, but we do know they like to run,” he admits, before clarifying, “For us, as a team, it is more about executing the coach’s instructions on how we should play.”

With the end of the club’s trophy drought potentially only three Nedbank Cup games away, and a CAF qualifying place in the league still within their grasp, Maart insisted that everyone at the club is totally focused on achieving those objectives.

“We are all trying to push each other to get to a level where we can just concentrate on winning each and every game from now until the end of the season.”
