The City of Cape Town has announced planned electricity supply interruptions in Heideveld to allow for essential infrastructure maintenance. The work will occur on 18 March and 26 March, from 8:30 to 16:00 on both days. Officials urge residents to prepare for the power outages and take necessary precautions.
Planned power cuts for Maintenance to Improve Infrastructure
City engineers will perform power cut maintenance to ensure a more reliable electricity supply. On March 18, Longkloof Circle, Lainsburgweg, and Heideveld Centre will be affected. On 26 March, power will be disrupted in Amatola and Zuurbergweg. The city has provided outage maps online so residents can check which areas will be impacted.
Residents Urged to Take Precautions
The city advises residents to switch off appliances during the outage to avoid damage when power is restored. Electricity supply could return at any time, so all electrical installations should be treated as live for the entire duration of the work.
“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the city said in a statement
City apologises for the inconvenience
Officials have acknowledged the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience.
“The city apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding,” the city added.
In addition, the interruptions to supply will only impact the highlighted areas on the maps and only on the relevant date.
Residents can access outage maps online for March 18 (Longkloof Circle, Lainsburgweg, Heideveld Centre) and March 26 (Amatola, Zuurbergweg).
How do you think planned maintenance should be handled to minimise disruptions for residents and businesses?
