ITV lands gripping new series from Broadchurch boss – eight years after Bafta-winning drama ended


ITV HAS commissioned a new crime drama, Death at The White Hart, from Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall. The series, based on Chibnall’s debut novel, is moving straight to series ahead of the book’s publication.

Produced by Red Planet Pictures and Chibnall’s company, Imaginary Friends Productions, the show will air on ITV1 and STV, with streaming options available on ITVX and STV Player. Fremantle will handle international distribution.

Set in the Dorset village of Fleetcombe, Death at The White Hart follows Detective Nicola Bridge as she investigates the murder of a pub landlord, uncovering secrets and rivalries within the community.

Filming for the project is scheduled to begin next year.

Following the success of Broadchurch, Chibnall described ITV as the ideal home for the adaptation.

He stated: “Polly’s dynamic vote of confidence in Death at The White Hart made it a straightforward decision to bring the novel to the screen with ITV. Within this cliffhanger-packed murder mystery sits a specifically British story about how people live their lives right now.”

ITV’s Drama Director Polly Hill called the project a perfect partnership” and expressed confidence that the adaptation, with Chibnall at the helm, will be compelling.

Belinda Campbell of Red Planet Pictures added that the story’s structure and characters are well-suited for television.

Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Oscar-nominated actress Olivia Colman, earned a huge following and received critical acclaim from viewers scoring a 92% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
