Kaizer Chiefs have a potentially revamped transfer strategy for the next window. Meanwhile, two midfielders are in their sights.
Chiefs will release a host of players to get new targets
According to SoccerLaduma, Kaizer Chiefs will make massive changes to their playing personnel at the end of the campaign. They’re reportedly planning a swoop for 24-year-old Bafana midfielder Luke Le Roux. However, that’s just one of the matters on their agenda. They’re currently looking to fish in different waters to find their targets and avoid tough competition for marquee players. Chiefs stuttered to a 0-0 stalemate with Cape Town City on Wednesday to leave them in eighth place with 29 points after 21 matches.
“What the club has decided on their recruitment policy is to try and sign as many players as possible who are not in demand from their local rivals. On many occasions, when they are competing with other local teams, they end up not signing those players. Now that’s why they have reignited the pursuit of Luke Le Roux. He is a South African but currently playing in Europe and they believe they stand a better chance of signing him,” the insider said.
Huge overhaul on the cards at Naturena
For Chiefs to execute their winter transfer strategy, they’ll need to release several current players.
“For them to bring in most of the players they are looking at and targeting, they need some players, if not most players, to leave. Something like an overhaul. This could be mainly in the attacking areas though the goalkeeping and defence could also be affected (to a certain extent). That’s what they are working on now to balance the club in terms of playing personal but also the wage balance as well,” the second source stated.

Chiefs must wait for Salum to become a free agent
Azam FC have revealed that Amakhosi can trigger the 27-year-old midfield schemer’s buyout clause but it would come at a huge $10 million (R183 million) cost. The more prudent course of action, however, would be for Chiefs to wait for his current deal with the Tanzanian side to wind down. That would allow them to sign the player for nothing, although they’d need to cough up a significant signing-on fee to the player and then match his wage demands. Salum wants something in the region of R200k a month to stay with his current employers.

Is Salum worth the massive outlays mentioned here?
