Netflix has officially announced plans to adapt Stephen King’s classic horror novel ‘Cujo’ into a new feature film.

The project will be produced by Roy Lee, known for his work on films like ‘Barbarian’ and ‘IT.

The original novel, published in 1981, tells the story of a mother and her son trapped in their car, fighting for survival against a rabid St. Bernard.

The first film adaptation of ‘Cujo’ was released in 1983, directed by Lewis Teague and starring Dee WallaceDaniel Hugh Kelly, and Danny Pintauro. It was a commercial success, grossing $21 million globally on a budget of $6 million.

For the new adaptation, Netflix is set to approach writers immediately, although no director or cast has been confirmed yet.

This project joins a growing list of Stephen King adaptations, including recent works like ‘The Monkey’ and upcoming projects such as ‘The Running Man’ and ‘Welcome to Derry’.
