EastEnders fans think they have worked out what really happened to Harry Mitchell’s (Elijah Holloway) ex-girlfriend Shireen after Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) dropped a murder bombshell on Wednesday.
Shortly after the extended Mitchell clan arrived in Walford last year, it was revealed that Harry’s ex had disappeared, with many people believing he was somehow involved.
After Harry was later arrested, his mum Nicola came to the rescue with a false alibi from the night Shireen went missing.
The mystery has faded into the background in recent months, but was revisited on Wednesday when Nicola told Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) her ex-husband Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) had murdered Shireen.
Nicola warned them how dangerous Teddy was and that he would kill them all if Zack or Sharon revealed to him that Zack is the real father of Nicola’s son Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman).
However, the timing of Nicola’s bombshell has got fans talking, given she is so desperate to keep a lid on Barney’s real paternity.
Some have questioned if Teddy is really the killer, while others suspect Nicola herself of murdering Shireen.
‘She’s definitely lying,’ one fan posted on X. ‘She’s probably got lots of secrets not just Barney. Nicola is nasty – probably she’s the one who actually killed Shireen herself.’
‘I wonder if Nicola is telling the truth or not maybe she killed Shireen,’ another penned.
‘I think Nicola is lying and she killed Shireen or caused her disappearance,’ a third agreed.
‘Nah, Nicola’s the killer. And a master manipulator. 100% she killed poor Shireen,’ said another.
However, others think that Shireen is could actually be alive and well.
‘Give us Shireen and let her work with Sharon to knock Nicola off her perch,’ one fan said.
Another wrote: ‘Nicola is so chatting bull. She’s panicking because she’s going to get caught out. I wonder who’s going to play Shireen?!’
‘Reckon Nicola is lying about him killing Shireen (in fact I think she’s alive but Nicola made her go away lol),’ said another.
Last year, one fan also put forward another convincing theory, suggesting: ‘I think Nicola was stealing Teddy’s money cause she payed Shireen to disappear cause she didn’t want her son going to prison for killing her in anger.’
Whatever did happen to Shireen, fans will start to get some answers next week when her brother turns up in Walford to seek out Harry…
