A man and woman are dead after concerns for their welfare resulted in the grim discovery of their bodies in a southeast London home.
A welfare check was carried out by officers around 3.00 pm on Tuesday at a home in Holstein Way, Thamesmead.
Inside, a man and woman were found with ‘serious injuries’ and declared dead at the scene.
Eseoghtene Keremu, who lives a few doors away from the residence, told Metro she heard sirens in the road on Tuesday and saw the road was taped off.
She said: ‘I was working from home and I heard lots of sirens and saw lots of police cars and at least two ambulances in the road. We don’t know what happened but it is really shocking and sad to hear this.
‘It isn’t like something like this happens all the time around here, we are a close community so I am shocked and it is just really sad.’
She added: ‘I didn’t know who they were but it is really sad regardless and I hope that nobody else is hurt. Whenever someone dies it will always impact everyone who lives nearby.’

‘I know many residents in the local area will be questioning why police are carrying out enquiries within Holstein Way,’ Policeman Trevor Lawry said.
‘We are currently investigating the death of two people, which was unexpected and unexplained.
‘At this early stage, we are working with officers and local authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths. We believe that the two were known to each other, and at this time we are not seeking to speak with anyone else in connection with this.
‘A crime scene will remain in place until we have conducted our enquiries. Thank you to those in the local area for their patience.’
Their next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers as police continue to investigate what led to the pair’s death.
