The wet weather from winter can leave your patios looking mouldy and grim as it allows algae to grow.

So with spring approaching, we’re sure you’ll want to get rid of a green-tinged patio.

This simple hack will make the job easy without having to buy a pressure washer or costly algae-removing sprays.

Most patios are porous and retain small amounts of water.

When they become waterlogged, algae can form, giving your patio a swamp-like green hue.

This issue often arises after a lengthy winter, as the cold, damp days create perfect conditions for this water-loving plant.

Besides looking horrible, algae can also pose a danger to kids and pets because of its slippery surface.

It can also stink of rotten eggs due to the gas it releases.

To get rid of it quickly, experts recommend using household bleach.

They recommend using an equal mixture of bleach and water, as the cleaning product’s strong chemicals eliminate the bacteria growth.

“Care needs to be taken, as it can harm plants, grass and wildlife; however, you can spray greenery nearby with water before applying to dilute any overspray,” warns Furniture Clinic.

You can purchase a 750 ml bottle of Easy Citrus Bleach from Wilko at the low price of just 55p.

Simply pour the solution on to the patio and use a stiff broom to scrub it in.

You can use a hard-bristled brush in the joints but be wary of disturbing any joint sand.

Once done, you just need to rinse the area with clean water and allow the patio to dry.
