Jose Riveiro speaks out on Orlando Pirates future

Jose Riveiro speaks out on Orlando Pirates future ahead of an important clash.

Pirates head coach Riveiro has made it clear that his focus remains on the team’s performance and objectives rather than his own future. With his contract set to expire in June, speculation about his next move continues to grow, but the Spanish coach remains committed to his responsibilities at the club.

Speaking at a press conference at Rand Stadium on Thursday ahead of the Betway Premiership showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns, Riveiro emphasized the importance of teamwork and the positive atmosphere within the squad.

Riveiro on his drive and commitment

When asked directly about his future at Pirates, Riveiro chose to steer the conversation back to the game and his immediate goals.

“We are here to talk about the game on Sunday and not my contract or future. But, well, obviously I can give you a standard answer that my responsibility and my mandate are why I’m sitting here, and this is what the club is expecting from me,” Riveiro told the media.

“We are a different type of animal, and this is what we love. We love to compete, we love to face challenges. Our profession goes beyond the time we spend together on the field. Players are footballers 24 hours a day, and if they don’t embrace that mindset, they won’t perform at the level required. For us as the technical staff, it’s the same,” he added.

Continuous learning drives Riveiro’s passion

The Spanish tactician also highlighted how South African football offers constant learning opportunities, keeping him motivated.

“In my position, if you want to improve the team, analyze, learn, and continue studying the game. There is never a time when you can say you know everything. You never stop. We are playing for a big club, and millions of people’s lives are connected to what we do on the field,” Riveiro said.

“It is our responsibility to positively influence people’s lives. The complexity of the game will never allow you to just apply what you know for the rest of your career. This is a constant opportunity to learn, try new things, take risks. And sometimes adopt successful strategies from others,” he concluded.

High-stakes battle against Sundowns awaits

Orlando Pirates will take on Sundowns in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash at FNB Stadium on Sunday at 15:30. With both teams eager to assert their dominance in the league. All eyes will be on Riveiro and his squad to deliver a statement performance.
