Jose Riveiro avoids commenting on Monnapule Saleng saga

Jose Riveiro has chosen not to shed any light on the ongoing dispute between Orlando Pirates and Monnapule Saleng. He has chosen to speak only about the players he works with daily in training.

“I don’t think about players when we win or when we don’t win,” Riveiro spoke.

“I think no one would like to be in this situation when we started the season, but it is what it is. It’s something that, as you know, is not my role to speak so much about that issue.

“I just wish the best for both sides in this case, and we don’t… whatever I say is going to be a big headline, right?” he alluded.

With the case between the club and Monnapule Saleng still up in the air, it doesn’t seem like the player will represent the club anytime soon.

What Next for Monnapule Saleng?

The winger was part of the Bafana Bafana squad which took on Egypt in CHAN Qualifiers two weeks ago. After an impressive showing, he was released from the team which played in the reverse fixture in Cairo last Sunday.

Head coach for the CHAN qualifiers, Molefi Ntseki, shed some light on his release from the squad.

“Ja, Saleng is not part of the group that will be travelling to Egypt, so the players here will give us a very good balance, and we are looking forward to giving other players a chance,” Ntseki elaborated.

“Like anybody who was given a chance against Egypt in the first leg – and they did well, and we are very positive with what we have in camp, going to Egypt, we know they will be giving their best for their country.” The coach stated.

Monnapule Saleng has once again fallen out of the spotlight. We are unlikely to see him again until he resurfaces for Bafana Bafana in these CHAN qualifiers.

Saleng is unlikely to play for Orlando Pirates in the near future.

Have Orlando Pirates Suffered from Saleng’s Absence?

Since the turn of the new year, the Sea Robbers have struggled for consistency in the Betway Premiership. Their form has seen them fall 18 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns in the league, thanks to dropped points against Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC in recent weeks.

Head coach Jose Riveiro has refused to use Monnapule Saleng’s absence as a reason for their inconsistency in 2025.

“We have players in every position who are capable of doing the job, and that’s it. We have to live in the moment and look at the future.

“The future for us is to get ready for the match [against Mamelodi Sundowns] over the weekend. There’s no time to think about who’s there and who’s not.” He stated.
