Monnapule Saleng reaches boiling point with Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng turned 27 yesterday but didn’t get his birthday wish; the Buccaneers forward is demanding a pay rise.

The Bloemhof-born star coins R70,000 per week, which he believes to be undervalued. After a three-month standoff, the Pirates have yet to grant him his wish.

Sour relationships are never amicable, but this has taken a toll on the former Moroka Swallows man.

“He’s struggling. He’s not taking this Pirates thing well. Mentally, he’s not in the best place,” a FARPost source revealed.

Jose Riveiro remains silent

Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro is yet to confirm his future at the club, sparking speculation of an exit with his contract due to run out at the end of June.

“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home,” a source explained.

“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand. Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn’t made up his mind,

“He has made it clear that he misses home and family. And will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome.”

According to reports, Orlando Pirates are considering former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane as a potential replacement. Would this be a suitable replacement?

Should Orlando Pirates pay Saleng what he wants?
