Orlando Pirates get their revenge on Sundowns; title chase back on

Relebohile Mofokeng scored a brace to give Orlando Pirates a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers scored two goals within five minutes to earn three points at home. Coming into the match, the Buccaneers were 18 points behind the Brazilians although they have four games in hand. The home team were quick to settle and in the fourth minute, Evidence Makgopa made a good run with the ball to clear Lucas Suarez and provide a cut back to Mofokeng, who made no mistake to make it 1-0.

Two minutes later, Mofokeng scored his second after Sundowns made a mistake at the back. The Buccaneers controlled much of the early stages but the Pretoria side looked dangerous whenever they attacked with Lucas Ribeiro and Iqraam Rayners seeing a lot of the ball.

Orlando Pirates maintained the lead going into the half-time. In the second half, Masandawana threw everything at the Sea Robbers and were rewarded in the 66th minute.

Despite bossing possession and camping in the Bucs half, Sundowns failed to create clear cut chances to force the equaliser. Miguel Cardoso finished the match with 70% ball possession but only had two shots on target.

Orlando Pirates on the other hand, had six shots on target. A win sees them reduce the gap to 15 points with four matches in hand. After the match, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso said his team lost focus in the first-half but came back strongly in the second-half.

Can the Buccaneers win the title or is it too late?
