Orlando Pirates manager Jose Riveiro continues to avoid questions regarding his future at the club.
“It’s not a personal interview to talk about my future or how important whatever is coming is going to be for me,” Riveiro said in an interview ahead of tomorrow’s Mamelodi Sundowns clash.
“It’s about Orlando Pirates, it’s about having an important game in two days, trying to get ready after three tough games in a row since we played in Port Elizabeth [Gqeberha] until today, with good performances, good results and the possibility of finding ourselves in a cup semi-final again.
“So I think there are a lot of things to talk about the team and what’s coming for them, and I think whether Riveiro is going to be or not going to be, or the league or not the league, I think it’s not the time to talk about it, sorry.”
Glory years
The Spanish native has enjoyed three illustrious years in Soweto, winning five domestic trophies, and has a chance to make it six as they head into the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup.
So, while Orlando Pirates’ thirteen-year league title drought continues – and looks likely to extend to fourteen – Riveiro has restored the Soweto giants to winning ways; however, he hasn’t been able to close the gap on Sundowns.
The Buccaneers tabled a new three-year deal before this season ignited, which Riveiro refused to sign, opting to decide instead at the end of the season.
That time of the year is soon coming, and Orlando Pirates still have no clue whether they will have their manager next season, and have taken precautionary measures by eyeing replacements, such as Pitso Mosimane.
Who should Orlando Pirates hire if Riveiro leaves?
