Jacqui Burfoot has spoken at length about her high-flying corporate career on MAFS. However, she hasn’t actually specified what it is. Now, Jacqui has revealed what her job actually was before MAFS Australia 2025.
Although Jacqui describes herself on social media and her website as a “former lawyer”, she isn’t actually a fully qualified lawyer or solicitor. But she has worked in a few different areas of law.
She explained during an Instagram Q&A: “So, I started off in civil litigation in New Zealand, working on disputes and dispute resolution. So mainly equity trusts, negligence and things like that. Then I moved into investment law, so I worked as an investment analyst working on capital raises and finance for big commercial projects in New Zealand and international investment attraction for the government.
“Then I moved into working for venture capitals, so working in a tech accelerator called Techstars where they invest in early stage tech companies.
“And then I worked in legal recruitment, because recruitment is very similar to venture capital, if you know anything about the industries. Then I was working as an investment lawyer in again rich capital startups, and things like that.
“And now currently I have a business. So it’s a long journey, but that’s my career.”

Now, Jacqui graduated with a joint degree in law and finance from the University of Auckland in 2019. We know MAFS Australia 2025 was filmed over the summer of 2024. Ergo, Jacqui had at least five different jobs in five years before MAFS. Some of this legal work was remote, because in 2023 she lived in Bali as a “digital nomad”.
The business Jacqui is referring to in her answer seems to be her company Jacqueline Lee Jewellery. She sells sterling silver and gold-filled jewellery that is “designed for long-lasting durability” that has ” a lifespan of over one year”.
After MAFS Australia 2025 started airing and people responded to Jacqui’s behaviour on the show, she has been “unable to work”. She left her corporate job from before MAFS. Jacqui doesn’t think she’s “medically capable” of working in a similar role again for at least two years, and only if she changed her hairstyle.
