Still interested? Kaizer Chiefs receive Thembinkosi Lorch boost!

Kaizer Chiefs were rumoured to be heavily interested in signing Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns in the January transfer window.

Chiefs and Sundowns were believed to be in negotiations that would see Lorch arrive at Naturena in the January window.

Amakhosi made three signings in the January transfer window, as coach Nasreddine Nabi prioritised experience. That took the Tunisian mentor in the direction of Tashreeq Morris, Thabo Cele and Glody Lilepo. Chiefs were also believed to have been offered the chance to sign Lorch by Sundowns sporting director Flemming Berg. In the end a deal did not materialise.

Sundowns rejected Lorch approach from Chiefs

Rumour has it that Sundowns ended up saying they did not want to strengthen a direct rival. Eventually, Lorch joined his former coach Rulani Mokwena at Wydad Casablanca on a short-term loan deal. But this may not end the possibility of the former Orlando Pirates talisman joining his boyhood club Chiefs.

According to Soccer-Laduma, Sundowns do not have Lorch in their plans and will look to offload him upon return. This may open up an avenue to finally sign for Chiefs at the end of the current season.

Option for next season?

“The Siya crew understands that Sundowns are planning for the future with some of the younger players in their squad and there’s a high chance of Lorch not being part of the team next term. Indications are that coach Miguel Cardoso, as well as sporting director Flemming Berg, are open to the player not making a return to the club, as Sundowns are also looking at what’s available in the transfer window. Sundowns have always been a club that plans ahead with their transfer targets and the Siya crew understands that there is a team already looking at what their squad could look like next season, especially with their desire to constantly do well on the African continent. Lorch, meanwhile, is also expected to weigh his options, especially if he cannot stay at Wydad beyond the end of this season.” Wrote the publication.

Amakhosi do you want him?

Whether one of those options may still be Chiefs, remains to be seen. Amakhosi faithful, would you like to see Lorch sign for your club next season? Or has that window now passed?
