The Citizens confirmed the exit of Ertugral on Monday, following a poor run of form in the ongoing 2024/25 Betway Premiership.
The 65-year-old Ertugral leaves Cape Town City after taking over the coaching role on an interim basis in January this year, following the firing of Eric Tinkler in December 2024.
Ertugral initially joined the Cape side as the technical director, but was shown the door before serving time in that role.
Winless in last nine matches
Ertugral’s sacking came shortly after Cape Town City lost 1-0 against Marumo Gallants in the league this past weekend.
The Citizens are winless in their last nine league matches after last tasting victory against Richards Bay in mid-January.
Since Ertugral’s arrival, Cape Town City won three games, drew three and lost eight times across all competitions.
At the time of publishing, the Citizens are 13th in the standings with 23 points after as many matches.
The record shows they have won six matches, drawn five and lost a joint-league high 12 times.
They have only scored 13 goals in those 23 matches, while conceding 27.
Ertugral boasts an extensive coaching record in South Africa having taken the helm at Kaizer Chiefs (1999-2003 as well as between 2007-2009), Santos, Ajax Cape Town, Golden Arrows, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United.

Meanwhile, in a bid to end the season on a high, the Cape Town City has confirmed that Diogo Peral will take charge until the end of the season.
He will be assisted by Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa.

De Sa coached Orlando Pirates between 2012-2014, as well as Wits, Santos, Ajax Cape Town and Platinum Stars, among others.
“First team coach Diogo Peral will lead the team until the end of the season, assisted by Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa,” read a statement by Cape Town City.
After the upcoming FIFA break, Cape Town City will take on SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership on Sunday, 30 March in Polokwane.
Kick-off is at 17:30.
