Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) got way more than she bargained for when she came face-to-face with ex-fiancé Rob Donovan in Coronation Street this evening.

The florist was minding her own business when the fugitive caught her attention in the ginnel, leaving her completely stunned.

Viewers will know that Rob is currently on the run, having used his trip to the hospital to donate a kidney to sister Carla Connor (Alison King) to escape prison.

Despite her reluctance to get caught up in Rob’s current predicament, Tracy allowed him to come inside the house, and he wasted no time in attempting to win her over with smooth talk.

However, Tracy refused to let him get to her, instead insisting that he get to the point.

It was then that he explained that he needed somewhere to lie low while his contact sorted him a fake passport, and was hoping that Tracy might be willing to help him.

He reminded her that the last time they’d seen each other, he had handed himself in to the police to save her, which was the only reason he wasn’t currently a free man.

As he reflected on how he would do it all again for Tracy, insisting that he still pictures her and daughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) as his family, he revealed that he had heard about what Amy had been through.

Viewers will remember that Amy was raped by Aaron Sandford, but was left devastated when she was told there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

Rob explained how he had been so angry on hearing what had happened to her that he’d put a prison guard in the infirmary.

Making it clear what he would like to do to Aaron, he told Tracy that if she helped him, he’d make sure Aaron got what he deserved.

However, Tracy was adamant that it wouldn’t help Amy, and that the best thing they could do was forget about him and try to move on.

Luckily for Rob, Tracy did feel as though she owed him for saving her all those years ago, and agreed that he could stay for one night.

She made it very clear that this didn’t mean there was anything going on between them, insisting that she’d moved on.

This didn’t stop Rob from trying it on though, as he teased that it would be a shame to get two sets of bedsheets dirty.

Things are set to escalate next week (Picture: ITV)

However, Tracy stood her ground, promising that if she heard him take so much as a step upstairs, she would call the police ‘faster than you can bludgeon a barmaid’.

Meanwhile, the police appeared to be getting closer to catching Rob, as DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) grilled his girlfriend Mandy on his whereabouts.

When Lisa finally got Mandy to crack, the former prison guard revealed that Rob had stolen something from her flat when she’d last seen him a week ago – and it soon became clear exactly what it was he’d taken.

With Tracy out of the way, Rob pulled out a gun – but when it gets fired next week, who will be on the receiving end of the bullet?
