A British town is about to be treated to its eighth McDonald’s, all within walking distance of each other.

Bolton, in Greater Manchester, will see a new restaurant open on Cutacre Way, which is an employment park in an area off the A6 Salford Road.

This new site will be just an 11 minute drive from McDonald’s on Manchester Road and just nine minutes away from a second on Derby Street.

Two Zebra crossings are also set to be built to help control the flow of diners, along with 30 new parking spaces, MEN reports.

A design and access statement revealed: ‘The design concept for the proposal centres on the delivery of a high-quality development that supports local demand for a McDonald’s restaurant.

‘It has been designed with an attractive modern aesthetic which reflects the character of the retail and commercial uses in the wider area.’

The restaurant chain said the new restaurant will provide 80 jobs for the area.

Bolton Council approved the plans on March 12, and is part of McDonald’s biggest expansion with 200 new restaurants over the next four years.

Basingstoke, in Hampshire, has the next highest proportion of restaurants all within seven miles of each other.

Other cities with a large amount of McDonald’s across the country include in order London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol, Nottingham and Leicester.

In protest over the opening of yet another branch of McDonald’s in Basingstoke, Hampshire, nutrition coach Matthew Cowell staged demonstrations dressed up as a doctor outside the latest branch in October 2024.

He said: ‘The fourth one opened in May, and that kind of caught my attention and when the fifth one was introduced so quickly after, that just made me think the town is moving in the wrong direction.’

Matthew handed out leaflets to people about heart disease before they went in and ate up their burgers.

‘I think you can drive around Basingstoke in about 15 minutes and you can see all five,’ he said.

‘It doesn’t sit right with me, the manner in which we have a health crisis and at the same time we’re making it harder for ourselves with this.

‘There’s a real lack of healthy options around here which makes it even worse.’
