A ‘hilarious and deeply moving’ female-driven comedy is now available to stream on Netflix.

Released in 2023, Joy Ride was written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao and directed by Adele Lim.

It starred Ashley Park (Emily in Paris) as Chinese adoptee Audrey Sullivan who lives with her white parents in Washington, with her childhood best friend, Lolo Chen (Sherry Cola).

While Audrey is an overachieving lawyer, Lolo struggles to make ends meet with her sex-positive art.

But when Audrey is flown to China to secure a deal (with Lolo in tow) with a Chinese businessman, he wants to know about her birth family – who she’s never met – then leading her to track them down.

In its review of the movie, Metro wrote: ‘Crazy Rich Asians smashes into Bridesmaids, Girls Trip et al with Joy Ride, a female-driven comedy so outrageous it’ll leave you gasping.’

‘It’s fresh, it’s funny, it’s filthy. Buckle up for a wildly exciting ride.’

‘Joy Ride is a raunchy, riotous adventure, chock-full of self-discovery and heart,’ The Washington Post said.

‘I haven’t laughed this hard in a movie theatre in a very long time,’ Arizona Republic added.

Meanwhile viewers called it both ‘rude, crude and vulgar and also funny, touching and a really good laugh’.

This week the movie dropped on Netflix, with viewers now able to tune in if they hadn’t done so before.

Joy Ride was previously compared to Bridesmaids and The Hangover but also stood apart in the fact it starred four Asian actors.

‘I’m just happy to see a movie I would have loved to have seen when I was a kid,’ Chevapravatdumrong told USA Today.

‘The fact that this movie is putting faces onscreen that you may not have seen in an R-rated comedy before – and a whole bunch of them – gets 10-year-old me very hyped.’

Joy Ride is now streaming on Netflix.
