Tim Sukazi takes dig at Orlando Pirates and Relebohile Mofokeng?

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi appeared to take a sly dig at Orlando Pirates and their stalwart Relebohile Mofokeng

Galaxy are set to finalise the departure of one of their key players and Pirates product Samukelo Kabini to Europe.

Kabini set to join Molde from Galaxy

Kabini, who joined Galaxy having coming from the Pirates development structures has impressed in Mbombela. At just 21, the left-sided centre-back, -who can also play as a left-back- became a mainstay for his new club. His impressive form for the Rockets even saw him receive a call up to Hugo Broos’ preliminary Bafana Bafana squad.

Kabini didn’t make the cut for the final 23 that will do battle in two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. But he still has a lot to look forward to as he jets off to Norway. Accompanied by his club chairman Sukazi, he is expected to complete the transfer to Norwegian giants Molde this week. According to reports, he will be signing for a Galaxy record fee of R15 million.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Sukazi confirmed that Kabini was finalising his deal with Molde.

“Yes, Samukelo Kabini has signed for Norwegian topflight club Molde FK, who have won consecutive league titles and are known to be playing in the UEFA Champions League. Indeed, it’s a transfer fee in euros for starters and we have never done a transfer of this nature of course. So it becomes a record transfer. But I’d hate to say that because there should be no limit. The quality should dictate the price and Kabini’s quality is proof of this. We have transformed boys into men and this is good for the country.” Said Sukazi.

Sukazi then seemed to use Kabini’s direct move to Molde as a sly dig at Pirates and Relebohile Mofokeng.

Sly dig at Pirates and Mofokeng

“It is clear what type of club he will be joining and we are happy with that. I am sure it also indicated to many that as TS Galaxy we have become the university of football by producing untested talent at the highest level and also tactically sound. We are now taking on bigger leagues by taking the players straight to Europe – you will hardly hear that a player from TS Galaxy is going for trials or hear a rumour that a big club wants our player, but meanwhile you have seen no comment from the club,”

“I will make an example with the young boy at Orlando Pirates – Relebohile Mofokeng. A lot was made about Barcelona, but did you see Barcelona commenting? It’s probably one of these irresponsible journalists who started the story. I have never seen Barcelona writing that they want Mofokeng and with that you put the boy under unnecessary pressure. It’s not right because now every time he plays he is being compared to [Lamine] Yamal.” Sukazi continued.

Is Sukazi right?

Mofokeng also went to trials at Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers last season as Pirates confirmed. Do you think there was cheeky message left there by Sukazi?
