Orlando Pirates dribbling wizard Patrick Maswanganyi has finally responded to Jomo Sono‘s utterances about an ant and an elephant.
A few months ago, Sono was asked whether or not Maswanganyi deserved the No.10 jersey at Pirates given how he plays.
At the time, Maswanganyi was in scintillating form for Pirates, so much so, that he was even compared to Sono during his playing days.
However, Sono dismissed that notion, saying the media should not compare an ant to an elephant.
Now, Maswanganyi has admitted that Sono’s utterances did not sit well with him, saying he expected the Pirates legend to be more supportive of the current generation.

“You can’t compare an ant to an elephant, that’s what I remember because whatever he said, maybe that’s because he has not seen the kind of person I am,” Maswanganyi said in Pirates’ documentary Bucs Camp.
“I don’t play football to prove anything to anyone or to show people what I’m capable of. I think I get onto the pitch to enjoy football and to win.
“As a person you shouldn’t look down on anyone regardless of who you are and what you do.”
“I think for the fact that I play for the same team you played for and did well in, I think a person like him should instead be supportive so that we can also believe we can reach his heights,” he continued.
“Because we’re here to try outdo those before us and many will still come to surpass us.
“So, if he can’t teach us to treat the next Orlando Pirates players right, we won’t want to either, we’ll feel like we’re just returning the favour for how we were treated,” added Maswanganyi.
