Amazon Prime Video viewers are rushing to watch an ‘irresistible’ fantasy series after it’s soared up the charts on the streaming platform.
The Wheel of Time, which first premiered in 2021, was created by TV producer Rafe Judkins and is based on the novel series by late author Robert Jordan.
Starring Rosamund Pike, the epic show follows the story of Pike’s character Moiraine – a member of the Aes Sedai who believes one of five young recruits has the power to save the world from evil.
The Aes Sedai are an ancient order of women in the world who have the power to channel special abilities that control both the elements and time in the show’s universe.
After a successful first two seasons, the show was renewed for a third season in 2022, and the first three (of eight) episodes dropped on Thursday night.
It means that fans of the series have had plenty to get their teeth into over the last 24 hours, urging people who’ve yet to start the series to get on board now.

@YoungWolf989 said on X: ‘Wheel of Time succeeds where no other work of epic fantasy does – it is a female-centric fantasy that is full of life and simply irresistible.
‘By tapping into the considerable mother energy of its cast, it delivers screen magic like we have never seen before.’
@NerdyGunz concurred, adding: ‘This season is phenomenal! So much character building and fan service. So hyped!’
@DanyzStarlight said that another fantasy show could learn a thing or two from the Amazon production: ‘Now that’s how you open up a season of a fantasy show. The stakes were high. House of the Dragon, take notes.’

The series has received positive reception from critics, with the first season landing a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 81% and an average score of 7.0 out of 10.
Critics praised the way the TV series made Jordan’s novels accessible to its audience, but criticised some of its plot mechanics and writing decisions.
However, things improved somewhat for the second season, with the Rotten Tomatoes rating climbing to 88% while its average score jumped up to 7.6 out of 10.
And that upward trend has continued with season three, with the brand new episodes receiving a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 89% and an average score of 7.9 out of 10.

As well as starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, The Wheel of Time also features Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran, Zoe Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, and Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere.
Metro said The Wheel of Time’s first season ‘captured the magic and imagination with full force, welcoming viewers into a world brimming with sorcery, action, emotion and a high-stakes battle between light and darkness.’
And of season two: ‘This series can be thoroughly enjoyed by those who haven’t read the original books by Robert Jordan, this show is truly a love letter to his absorbing writing.’
