Are Kaizer Chiefs really ‘Cooking’ ? Khune shoots his shot

Are Kaizer Chiefs really “Cooking”? Itumeleng Khune clearly disagrees.

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Khune has openly challenged Football Manager Bobby Motaung’s optimistic assessment of the club’s progress under head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Motaung recently expressed confidence in the team’s direction following their narrow 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Friday.

In an interview with SuperSport, Motaung insisted that Chiefs are “cooking” and on the right track despite their struggles this season.

“It’s a long journey, we’re not there yet, but we are cooking it. Trust the process, it’s a journey, give it patience and time. To build takes time, it’s not an overnight success. It’s a building process, we are there, and the league is not over yet,” he stated.

Khune calls out Chiefs’ lack of consistency

While Khune deeply respects Motaung, even considering him a father figure, he strongly disagrees with his outlook. The veteran goalkeeper highlighted Chiefs’ inconsistency as their biggest weakness, pointing to their erratic performances this season.

“‘Bob Steak’ is like a father to me – but I don’t agree with his statements,” Khune asserted.

Despite flashes of brilliance, Chiefs have struggled to maintain momentum. Out of 17 matches, they have won seven, drawn four, and lost six. This stop-start form raises concerns about their ability to compete at the highest level.

“Chiefs haven’t been convincing this season. They are playing in patches, and obviously, everyone expects Kaizer Chiefs to be the most consistent team. But the fact that they win one, lose one, and then draw one – that’s not consistency,” he explained.

Finding the winning formula

Khune believes the club must identify a winning formula and commit to it. He urged the coaching staff and players to analyze what has worked for the team and refine their approach accordingly.

“There’s something they need to go back and check. What is it that works for the team? What is it that doesn’t work? They need to continue improving on what has been working. Consistency is what is needed. That’s all I can say about Kaizer Chiefs,” Khune concluded.

Can Chiefs turn their season around?

With the league still far from over, Chiefs have a chance to address their shortcomings. However, Khune’s critique raises valid concerns. Can they find consistency before it’s too late? Fans will be watching closely as the season unfolds.
