Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has opened up about her relationship, which she tends to keep out of the spotlight.
The actress, who has played Mercedes McQueen since 2006, shares her son Daye with her ex-partner and former Geordie Shore alumnus Greg Lake, 39, who she split from after eight years together, in 2020.
The star was spotted with her new partner around Valentine’s Day last year, and has now revealed more about him and how he makes her ‘really happy’.
‘When you’re younger, in your twenties, you’re looking for a unicorn of a man and going, “nah, that one’s not for me!” Now I feel more at peace with where my life is at and it’s nice to share that with somebody.’
Jennifer is enjoying the progression of her relationship, but has admitted marriage has never really been on her ‘path’.
She added to the Mirror: ‘I’ve always wanted a child, and I have my little boy Daye, but I’ve never seen marriage in my plan’, she explained.
‘I’ve never dreamt of a big white wedding dress. I’ve had seven on Hollyoaks and if I ever did get married I’d wear black or gold or something completely different!’.
Mercedes, former landlady of The Dog In The Pond, was diagnosed with bowel cancer during the ‘missing’ year of Hollyoaks and has been receiving treatment for months.
It’s been a tough journey, with Mercedes believing that she wouldn’t see her beloved twins grow up.
In March, Mercedes attended another appointment at the hospital, where she was told her chemotherapy treatment is working.
Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) is father to one of the twins while Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) is dad to the other.
