AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- Augusta University’s Capitol Day took about 30 students on a trip down to Atlanta.
These students were nominated by their respective deans and organization advisers as representatives of Augusta University.
They get the experience of sitting in on a legislative session and meet members.
“I’m really excited that I’m a part of it to represent, I guess, university specifically the whole college of business. And so I feel like it’s an honor and thrill to be able to represent our school and such an important event like this,” said student, Daniel Prasad.
This day gives those selected students the opportunity to learn and experience the world of politics.
“I’ve ever been in a setting like that before. I’m not really into really politics and things of that nature. So, I think this will be a really great experience for me to really soak up all the knowledge and things of that nature,” said student, Omari Matthew.
Another student, Jherrica Childers said, “I’m excited to see the legislative process unfold in real world. You can read about it in textbooks. You can analyze case studies, you can write 50-page papers about it. But I think seeing it in real world play now is really going to bring my educational experience full circle.”
And while they’re learning new things, they are prepared to ask questions
“I want to ask them also what inspired them to work in law, because it is truly a job they have to have passion for. And I think I do have the passion and drive to work in law. So I want to hear about their stories and inspiration,” said student, Ilene Modarezi.
