POLICE are investigating the mystery death of a British cyclist found dead while on holiday with his partner in the Canary Islands.
The unnamed 55-year-old was discovered by a walker lying next to his bike on a road in Lanzarote after he went out for a ride.
The cyclist was found dead on a road near Guatiza, LanzarotePolice have launched a probe into the unexplained death
He was found dead on a stretch of Calle Vicente Guerra Street – between the village of Guatiza and the Spanish island’s east coast.
The walker raised the alarm just after midday and emergency services rushed to the scene, but tragically could do nothing to save the holidaymaker.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His partner was waiting at their hotel for him to get back from the bike ride, and has received the tragic news.
The cause of his death is now being investigated by the Civil Guard.
Cops say there were no immediate signs of any injuries to suggest he had been struck by a car.
They are considering the possibility that he suffered a sudden medical problem whilst cycling and was unable to find help in time.
It’s not currently clear whether he had his mobile with him.
Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to shed some light on his final moments.
A spokesperson for the local emergency services said they received a call at around 12:45pm about an unconscious man, and that two ambulances rushed to the scene.
The Brit was found at a spot around a 20 minute drive north of the Lanzarote capital Arrecife.
No more details about his identity have so far been released.
Cycling is a popular tourist activity on Lanzarote, where it suits all ability levels.
The roads on the island are generally well-maintained and lots of companies that offer rental bikes and guided trips.

4 weeks agoNew York StateComments Off on David Beckham in surprise career move which could see him competing with wife Victoria
DAVID BECKHAM recently posed in his pants for Boss and also had deals with Adidas and H&M.
But the footballer-turned-entrepreneur now looks set to give his fashion designer wife Victoria a run for her money with his own clothing company.

In paperwork seen by Bizarre, he has requested that the trademark cover “clothing, footwear and headgear,” which certainly makes it sound like he has his eyes on a fashion empire.
A source said: “David is a style icon so it seems like a no-brainer for him to launch his own clothing range.
“Obviously he can earn a fortune by doing deals to be the face of other brands, but this would give him real control.
“It is very early days but the fact that he has a logo sorted which he has trademarked is a clear sign that a clothing brand is something he is interested in.
“But unlike Victoria, his clothes are more likely to be casual sportswear rather than high-end designer gear.”
Last year he said his love for fashion had existed from a young age, but that he had been encouraged in more recent years by Victoria.
Ballet shoes
He explained: “My wife added to the fashion side of my life when we met 27 years ago but even before then, I was always into fashion.
“Even at eight years old when I was page boy at my mum’s friend’s wedding.
“She asked if I wanted to wear a suit or if I wanted to wear tights and a pair of ballet shoes and I chose the tights and ballet shoes.
“So in all honesty, I never feel pressure. I enjoy wearing suits, I enjoy wearing casual clothes but I never feel pressure to look any certain way.”
Probably best to steer clear of tights and ballet shoes for your own collection though, Becks.
Stars shine for a funny 50th
THE stars were out in force in London for the Baftas, but over in New York, there was an equally star-studded celebration on Sunday evening.
The 50th anniversary do for hit US TV comedy show Saturday Night Live was attended by a host of celebs including Kim Kardashian, who wore a figure-hugging silver dress, and a dazzling Sabrina Carpenter.

APRyan Reynolds with his wife Blake Lively[/caption]
They both took part in skits in front of a live audience, with Kim sporting an auburn wig for a skit opposite comedian and director Kristen Wiig, who brought back her character Dooneese Maharelle for the night.
Meanwhile Sabrina purposely sang badly for a karaoke sketch which also featured Pedro Pascal and Bad Bunny.
Miley Cyrus, Anya Taylor-Joy, Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson were in the audience, as was Cher and her music exec boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, after she performed at another celebration for the programme on Friday.
And proving nothing was off limits, Ryan Reynolds made a tongue-in-cheek joke about his wife Blake Lively’s lawsuit battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
In a segment which saw the hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler chat to celebrities in the audience, he was asked “How’s it going?” before shadily replying: “Great! Why, what have you heard?”
The camera then panned to Blake who looked in shock at the planned gag.
That whole saga is no laughing matter but I’m glad they can make light of it.
EMMA CORRIN still lives in a house-share despite starring in massive movies Deadpool & Wolverine and Nosferatu.
Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with The National Lottery on Virgin Radio UK, Emma said: “There are five of us in a three-bedroom flat. The only rows we have are when someone, usually me, leaves mouldy veg in the fridge.”
Swash camps it up
SUGAR Hut, Sheesh Chigwell, and Lakeside Shopping Centre, watch out – a new Essex hotspot is on the way, thanks to Joe Swash and Stacey Solomon.
And it sounds like the pair plan to bring a little luxury to the area.

I can reveal the lovebirds are over-hauling their £1.3million home, Pickle Cottage, to create a posh glamping retreat.
Joe hopes to turn the 2.5-acre grounds of the Tudor-style mansion into a haven for nature lovers.
He said: “I’m thinking a couple of yurts, a couple of little hot tubs, a little bit of glamping so people can come and stay on the grounds.
“I want to make somewhere where you can come and eat good food and bring your wife and she won’t mind you fishing because she’ll have enough things to do. Hopefully, the public will book and come and stay. That’s the big goal – to have a really nice glamping place where people can come and just enjoy nature.”
Joe is already overseeing the development of the fishing lake that will form the heart of the new project.
But it sounds like he will need to keep DIY-fan Stacey away from the design of the holiday park.
He added: “Stacey does have these moments where she has creative bursts. Once, I came home and she had covered the whole utility room in Barbie pink plastic sticky vinyl.
“My argument to Stacey was, ‘Imagine if you’d come home and I’d camouflaged a whole room in a fishing theme’.”
Er, isn’t that what you’re up to with the lake, Joe?
Jason Momoa will host the July 5 gig at Birmingham’s Villa Park.
Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, Gojira, Alice In Chains, Tool, Rival Sons, Halestorm, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon are on the bill.
No wonder tickets sold out in ten minutes.
