Brighton 3 Chelsea 0: Enzo Maresca’s embarrassing Blues have ZERO shots on target as Seagulls run riot
FORGET fighting on four fronts – Chelsea can’t even do it on the seafront.
A second trip to the South Coast in a week, another abject performance from Enzo Maresca’s team which is suddenly in danger of collapse.

And Kauro Mitoma torturing them yet again with his second goal in as many games – this time showing world class quality to make a £1 billion squad look two bob.
Last Saturday, head coach Maresca was forced to look for silver linings after being dumped out of the FA Cup on this same patch of ground.
They are also out of the Carabao Cup and after this result could be booted out of the Premier League top four this afternoon by either Manchester City or Newcastle.
Maresca claims his injury-hit and youthful players are not ready to challenge in the three domestic and one European competition yet.
Right now it’s the third-rate Conference League or bust as the energy drains from the legs and hearts of his wobbling boys in blue.
Last Saturday was bad enough, seeing how Chelsea got a lucky break through a Brighton own goal, only to wilt.
Yet far from turning it on and responding in historic Stamford Bridge style, the bald Italian had his head in his hands again as a debut season which promised so much for him before Christmas is now in freefall.
This was even worse than last week. Not even a glimmer of early hope like they were when gifted an early lead through a Brighton own goal. Instead just plain old surrender.

Brighton fans were singing ‘can we play you every week?’ long before half time – ignoring the fact they actually do.
The Chelsea fans were long gone before the final whistle having reverted to type and called for former owner Roman Abramovich.
If there is any consolation for them, they got to see a stunning goal scored right in front of them by a class act – just a shame it was against their team.
Mitoma’s ice-cool control taking down a long punt upfield from keeper Bart Verbruggen redefines route one football.
The weighty hoof landed on his outstretched right foot like a plunging meteorite, yet the Japanese winger cushioned it like a fragile, new born baby.
He then slammed on the air brakes and left Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah for dead before curling a classy finish into the corner of the net.
Go google Dennis Bergkamp’s immortal strike for Holland against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup finals and you’ll see what everybody is raving about.
It would be nice to write how Brighton added to that with goals of similar quality but the two scruffy efforts from Yankuba Minteh were in stark contrast.

Seven minutes before half time he poked home a shot from inside the box through a ruck of legs after Chelsea failed to clear.
He then wrapped it all up in the 63rd minute by bundling home a shot deflected off Chalobah.
Where Chelsea are floundering, Brighton have their tails up and have done wonders to further their own outside push for European football next season.
They move up to eighth on the back of this extraordinary victory in the Premier League’s newest grudge match.
Maresca’s refusal to pass comment on Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler may just be a simple act of loyalty towards his old mate and the German’s predecessor Robert de Zerbi.
But it’s made for simmering bad feelings regardless, even though the two coaches shook hands briefly before kick off and at the end.

It doesn’t need words from either man to work out who has emerged the winner of this particular battle.
Maresca can point to the lack of a fit striker as much as he likes and it is a fair point.
But none of Brighton’s goals was scored by a striker to underline that you can get goals from other positions if you get the mood right.

And it certainly isn’t at Chelsea at the moment.
Star player Cole Palmer looks desperately unhappy.
Maresca’s best player wasted two good chances in the first half and then spent the rest of the game either out of sight or throwing his hands up in frustration at every wrong turn by a team-mate.

How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
Southport killer’s 52-year sentence won’t be extended after Attorney General deems it FAIR
SOUTHPORT killer Axel Rudakubana’s sentence has been deemed fair by the Attorney General.
The teen was handed a life tariff with a minimum 52 years by a judge last month.

It prompted anger that he could not receive a whole life order due to his age.
He was 17 when he murdered Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, at a dance class last July.
Because he was nine days from turning 18 at the time of the atrocity, he could not be given a whole life order.
The 52-year term is thought to be the longest for a killer his age.
It was referred to Attorney General Lord Hermer for being too lenient but will not now be sent to the Appeal Court.
Lord Hermer said yesterday: “No one would want the families to be put through an unnecessary further court process where there is no realistic legal basis for an increased sentence.”
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch led calls for a sentencing rules review.
She said: “His age means he has not been given a whole life sentence, despite the countless lives he destroyed on that dreadful day.”

Timeline of events related to the Southport stabbings

AXEL Rudakubana has pleaded guilty to the murders of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, and 10 counts of attempted murder.
Here is a timeline of events relating to the case:
2002: Rudakubana’s father Alphonse moves to the UK from Rwanda, according to an interview he gave to his local newspaper in Southport in 2015.
August 7, 2006: Rudakubana is born in Cardiff, Wales.
2013: The family – including Rudakubana’s father, mother and older brother – move from Wales to Banks in Lancashire, a few miles from Southport.
July 29, 2024: Shortly before midday, a knifeman enters a dance class at The Hart Space in Hart Street in Southport.
Bebe, Elsie and Alice are fatally wounded. Eight other children are injured, as are instructor Leanne Lucas and businessman John Hayes.
Police say they have detained a male and seized a knife.
Within hours, claims spread online that the suspect is an asylum seeker who arrived in the UK by boat in 2023.
Some claims include an alleged identity.
July 30, 2024: In the evening, a peaceful vigil is held outside Southport’s Atkinson arts venue, where flowers are laid in memory of those who died.
Shortly after the vigil, a separate protest begins outside the town’s mosque in St Luke’s Road.
People throw items towards the mosque, property is damaged and police vehicles are set on fire.
July 31, 2024: Demonstrators gather in Whitehall, London, for an “Enough Is Enough” protest.
Flares and cans are thrown at police and more than 100 people are arrested.
Disorder also breaks out in Hartlepool, County Durham, and Aldershot, Hampshire.
August 1, 2024: Police announce that Rudakubana has been charged with the murders of Bebe, Elsie Dot and Alice, 10 counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
He is not named by police because of his age.
He appears in court in Liverpool and Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Andrew Menary KC rules he can be named, as he is due to turn 18 in a week.
He initially smiled on entering the courtroom – then kept his face covered by his sweatshirt for the remainder of the proceedings before the case was adjourned.
Later that evening, demonstrators gather outside a hotel in Newton Heath, Manchester.
August 2, 2024: Three police officers are taken to hospital after disorder in Sunderland.
August 3, 2024: There are scenes of violence during planned protests across the UK, including in Liverpool, Hull, Nottingham and Belfast.
August 4, 2024: Disorder continues, including outside a Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, where masked demonstrators launch lengths of wood and sprayed fire extinguishers at police officers.
August 5, 2024: The Government holds an emergency Cobra meeting in the wake of the disorder and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer vows to “ramp up criminal justice”.
That evening, a peaceful vigil is held in Southport, a week on from the killings. Police deal with disorder in Plymouth, Devon and Darlington, County Durham.
August 7, 2024: Prison sentences for those involved in the unrest begin to be handed out. Derek Drummond, 58, is the first person to be jailed for violent disorder at Liverpool Crown Court, where he is sentenced to three years.
More than 100 protests are planned for across the country, with counter-demonstrations taking place, but the majority of police forces report very little trouble.
October 29, 2024: Merseyside Police announces Rudakubana will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink the next day charged with production of a biological toxin, Ricin, and possession of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing to commit an act of terrorism.
October 30, 2024: Rudakubana appears at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink from HMP Belmarsh to face the two new charges.
He holds his sweater over the bottom half of his face and does not respond when asked to confirm his name.
November 13, 2024: Rudakubana appears at Liverpool Crown Court via videolink. He covers his face with his grey sweatshirt and does not speak throughout the hearing.
About 20 family members of victims sit in the public gallery. The case is adjourned until December 12, when a preparatory hearing will take place.
January 20, 2025: Rudakubana appears at Liverpool Crown Court for the first day of his trial where he pleads guilty to all 16 charges, including the murders of Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven.

I transformed my old fashioned council house kitchen to a beautiful space for £48 – a £4.95 buy made a huge difference
A WOMAN has revealed how she transformed her council house kitchen on a tight budget.
The woman who goes by Msten Jos on YouTube shared the entire process in a video and people were seriously impressed.

In the clip, she said: ” I went from this dull and old-style kitchen to my beautiful, airy, modern style kitchen.
“I did this all on a budget of £48.58, this just shows you that you don’t have to spend over the odds.”
She showed the kitchen before her transformation which had black countertops, dark brown wooden cupboard doors, and an all-white tiled backsplash.
While she picked the design seven years ago, she decided it was time to change it up and go for something lighter.
“I’ve just decided I’d prefer an all-white kitchen just to open up the space and make it look brighter,” she explained.
To start, she took the cupboard doors off and painted them with a satin white furniture paint from Wilkos for £9.99.
She then moved on to her tiles and used a must-have buy from Amazon to give them a cheap and modern update.
The DIY whizz used a grout pen in charcoal grey to colour them in for £4.95 (at the time she purchased the pen, it was £3.99).
“That pen transformed my whole kitchen tiles, it looks absolutely amazing,” she added.
Once the tiles were complete, she cleaned the work tops and applied a marble vinyl sheet which she purchased for £6 from B&Q and used three sheets in total.

She also purchased DC fixed tools off of eBay which helps smooth out the paper and cut it to size.
She then showed off the new kitchen which looked so much bigger and brighter from her budget-friendly DIY.
“This is the finished look of my beautiful kitchen, I absolutely love it,” she beamed.
And she wasn’t the only one, people were quick to comment under the video posted to her account MsTen Jos in awe of her handy work.
Rules on transforming your council house
According to Gov, the kind of improvements you can make to your council property depends on the type of tenancy you have.
Introductory tenants are usually limited to minor improvements like redecorating inside.
If you’re a secure tenant, you have the right to carry out improvements to your property. These include:
- installing a new bathroom or kitchen
- building an extension
- putting up a garden shed or greenhouse
- installing a new gas fire or fireplace
- cavity wall insulation
- redecorating the outside of a house
- fitting an aerial or satellite dish
You might need your council’s written permission for work you do. Contact your council if you’re not sure.
One person wrote: “You have given me some hope as I’m a single mum and I don’t get much money but now I see I can make my home nice on a budget I love the tiles as well I love it all you done amazing.”
Another commented: “Thank you for actually doing a typical council kitchen makeover, looks lovely, in the middle of doing mine and using all the same products.”
“That’s a fantastic job on an amazing budget,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Well done…It all looks brilliant. You don’t need a lot of money if you’ve got style.”
“Really well done. You made a great transformation at such a low cost. You also did a very good job,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “This is great! Can’t believe you did it for under £50!”

Doctors say I must let my baby die – I’m fighting for his life, says mum of five-month-old on ventilator
THE mother of a desperately ill baby boy is fighting to give him a chance at life after doctors told her they should let him die.
Little Ismaeel Islam was born with Down syndrome and suffered a severe brain injury at just five weeks old when his heart stopped, and his brain was starved of oxygen.

Since then he has been on a ventilator at the Royal London Hospital in east London and is unable to breathe without medical help.
An MRI scan revealed that the incident at five weeks had caused severe damage to his brain.
Doctors told his parents Sharmin Akther, 37, and Azharul Islam, 39, that there is only a slim chance of recovery.
Now just five months old, consultants now want to take him off the life-giving ventilator, which could lead to his death in only a few hours.
His mother Sharmin is determined to do everything she can do to keep him alive and told The Sun she will fight the hospital decision every step of the way.
Similar cases, including that of tragic Charlie Gard and Tafida Raqeeb, saw hospital trusts apply for court orders to challenge the family’s wishes.
Sharmin told The Sun: “Even if it is a slim chance that he could recover, I don’t want him to miss that slim chance. But taking him off the ventilator means he will die.
“He needs more time, a longer time to recover. I know it is not magic and it cannot happen straight away.
“We’re not expecting that he can just walk and talk like a normal baby. But he should have the right to live as well. It’s a human right to live.
“Me, as a mum, I will do everything to look after my child. I cannot let my child die just because there’s a chance of him having a disability.”
Sharmin spends every day with little Ismaeel and says he can open his eyes, and closes them when he is asleep, which is an improvement from when the injury first happened.
She said he can hear her voice and responds to her when she is near him.
His favourite cuddly toy is an octopus, which he hugs and grips with his hands.
Sharmin and her husband now want doctors to perform a tracheostomy, where a tube is inserted into his windpipe, for a different type of ventilator to be fitted.
That would allow him to be treated at home, Sharmin says, and have periods where he tries breathing on his own without the machine.
“I don’t want to go to court and have to fight this, but I will do whatever it takes to save his life,” Sharmin said.
“All I want is to save my baby, I don’t want to lose him.”
Ismaeel was born on September 28 of last year via caesarean section, weighing just 1lb 15oz.
Despite having Down syndrome and being premature, Sharmin said doctors told her he was healthy and an active baby.
He was taken to a neonatal intensive care unit and later transferred to a specialist unit, which is less intensive than the NICU.
That changed on November 3 when doctors called her at 11.45pm, to say Ismaeel had collapsed.
Sharmin and Azharul rushed to the hospital and found doctors surrounding Ismaeel, who was having seizures.
The family still does not know what caused the cardiac arrest and an investigation into it is ongoing in the hospital.
He was struggling to breathe and was intubated, with an MRI two days later showing his brain had been starved of oxygen.
In November and December Ismaeel was taken off the ventilator three times, and each time he was only able to breathe on his own for a few hours, before needing to be intubated again.
A second MRI was carried out on his brain which showed that the brain damage was worse than had previously been thought.
Ismaeel’s parents have been told that there was no prospect of recovery because he will never be able to breathe on his own.
At the end of December, they were informed that he would not be a suitable candidate for a tracheotomy.
In January they were told that he could be taken off the ventilator for good, which Sharmin says would mean he would die.
The hospital asked for a second opinion and doctors from Great Ormond Street Hospital agreed with the initial findings, that Ismaeel had no chance of recovery.
Since then, Sharmin has requested that the ethics committee of Royal London meet with them to find a solution.
She is set to have mediation meetings with the hospital, but knows she will never agree for him to be taken off the ventilator and left to die.
Sharmin has three older children who are 10, 12 and 16, meaning she cannot be at the hospital 24/7.
She said: “I have to come home, but my soul is connected to him. I cannot think of anything else but him. I love him so much. I don’t want him to die.
“When I went to see him in hospital when he was in special care [before the brain injury] I could grab him and take him out to give him cuddles.
“He used to enjoy cuddles. He knew that it was time for cuddling. He used to show that he wanted to get up.
“We couldn’t wait to bring him home and now I don’t know if that will happen. Every day is uncertain.”
A spokesperson for Barts Health NHS Trust said: “Our thoughts are with Ismaeel’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
“We will continue to provide the highest level of care and support for both Ismaeel and his loved ones as we work together to make decisions that are in his best interests.”

Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd reveals HUGE US rap star sent cast a surprise on 50th anniversary
CORONATION Street star Jack P Shepherd has told how a US rap star Snoop Dogg sent the cast a surprise video to celebrate the soap’s 50th anniversary.
Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus Jr, is already a self-confessed fan of the legendary soap – having revealed hopes of getting a cameo one day.

As the Sun previously revealed, Snoop, 53, is also a huge fan of ITV’s Coronation Street and fancies propping up the bar at the Rovers Return.
Now Jack and his co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price have spilled the tea about the rapper’s personal message he sent to the cobbles.
Jack said on their podcast, On The Sofa with Colson, Jack and Ben: “Do you remember when he sent the video to us at the live episode party?
“They put it up on the screen of Snoop going ‘yo, yo, yo, Coronation Street, 50 years man, that’s sick’.
“He was loving it. It was mad.
“It was before the days when phones recorded video well and so the clip is now gone, it’s lost somewhere.
“But yeah we got a big happy anniversary off of Snoop Dogg.”
The Drop It Like It’s Hot star sent the message to celebrate the soap’s 50th year – following its famous tram crash in 2010.
Snoop previously told The Sun: “Coronation Street, I love it. If they call me I’ll do it. I’ll play whenever they need.
“I love the cinematography, acting, the storylines and just the reality.
“I’d like to be part of it because they’ve been part of my culture.”
He also hit out at cancel culture insisting: “That’s what the fans love.
“When you get me you’re getting a one of a kind experience.”
Man City win landmark case leaving Premier League at risk of being plunged into crisis with financial rules ‘unlawful’
MANCHESTER CITY have won their war with the Premier League over “unlawful” financial rules.
An independent tribunal today ruled in favour of the four-in-a-row champions — insisting the regulations are “void and unenforceable”.

The bombshell verdict could now trigger a series of multi-million-pound compensation claims from clubs and plunge the competition into crisis.
And it means City have landed a blow in their ongoing legal battle with the Prem and their chief Richard Masters, despite the ruling being separate to the charges of 130 financial rule breaches levelled at the club.
An 18-page tribunal verdict has ruled the Prem’s sponsorship regulations on Associated Party Transactions — which ran from December 2021 to November 2024 — were unlawful in their entirety.
Today’s landmark ruling from a panel of three eminent former judges means the League now face coughing up £20million to pay their legal bills — and City’s.
The APT rules were implemented following the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle and covered sponsorship deals with companies related to a club’s owners.
But the verdict opens the door to the Toon, Abu Dhabi-owned City and other clubs making massive compensation claims.
City — whose legal team was led by Lord Pannick — took the Prem to court after proposed deals with Etihad Airways and First Abu Dhabi Bank were blocked in 2023.
They also accused Prem chiefs of attempting to mislead clubs ahead of November’s vote on ATP rule amendments, which were passed following a majority 16-4 vote.

Masters wrote to all 20 clubs today, conceding the “previous rules as a while are void and unenforceable,” but insisting “new rules were voted into force” and that clubs must comply with them.
Today’s panel, including former Master of the Rolls Lord Dyson, judged the ATP rules could not be amended by a series of “discrete” tweaks.
But a Prem statement read: “This decision does not impact the valid operation of the new rules.
“The new APT rules are in full force and clubs remain required to comply with all aspects of the system.”
