Declan Rice’s cringeworthy Valentine’s Day pick-up lines re-emerge in incredible video years before Arsenal transfer

DECLAN RICE may not want to look at his phone today as he could be bombarded by Valentine’s Day messages.

But rather than loved-up posts, it may be friends poking fun of him in an old video.

Rice is in a long-term relationship with Lauren Fryer and they have a son together[/caption]

Back in 2018, Rice, recorded some cringeworthy chat up lines for a West Ham social media post.

The first line from the then 19-year-old was: “Do you know what my shirt is made of? Boyfriend material.”

The second was: “Do I know you? Because you look exactly like my next girlfriend.”

The final cringeworthy line was: “Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk by again?”

Rice would go on play for the Hammers for another six years, playing 245 times and becoming a regular for the England national team in the process.

His final appearance for the East London club saw him win the club’s first trophy since 1965 by winning the Europa Conference League while wearing the captain’s armband.

Rice then joined Arsenal in 2023 in a transfer worth up to £105m.

In all that time, Rice has found his Valentine by being in a relationship with childhood sweetheart Lauren Fryer, whom he started dating in 2015.

Rice quietly confirmed the birth of his first child with Lauren after showing off a tattoo on his arm which read “Jude Rice” along with the astrology symbol for Leo and the date of his son’s birth, 7 August 2022.

Unfortunately, Lauren has suffered disgusting abuse from trolls on social media, which saw her wipe her Instagram account clean of all of her pictures.

Dani Dyer, the partner of Rice’s former team-mate Jarrod Bowen, launched a passionate defence of Lauren in an interview with Fabulous Magazine in November last year.

Ex-Love Island star Dyer said: “It was so hard for her, the trolling, as she doesn’t put herself out there.

“I think it’s harder when you are not in [the celebrity world] and you are being personally attacked. I found that hard.

“She is a really good mum, who keeps to herself. No one deserves to be criticised like that.

“So, attacking a girl because of what she looks like, in this day and age, I don’t agree with it.”

Rice has once again starred on the pitch for Arsenal this season, playing 33 times in all competitions so far this season.

He is likely to be in action for the Gunners next game as they travel to Leicester in the Premier League.

ARSENAL PLAYER RATINGS: Saliba will be having nightmares about Isak as Lewis-Skelly is only Gunners star to show up

ARSENAL were humbled by Newcastle at St James' Park as the Magpies beat them 2-0 to secure a spot in the League Cup final.

The North Londoners knew they needed to take an early advantage if they were to overturn the 2-0 defeat at the Emirates.

But Jacob Murphy was on hand to put the Magpies a goal ahead after Alexander Isak‘s shot rebounded off of the post and out to him.

Shortly after the break, Anthony Gordon doubled the lead to all but confirm a second League Cup final in three years for Eddie Howe.

Here’s how SunSport’s Gary Stonehouse rated the Gunners.

David Raya – 5

Stitched Declan Rice right up for the second goal.

And that absolutely killed this as a contest for his side.

Jurrien Timber – 6

Tried to get forward and support the attack early but soon found himself dropping deeper to avoid being caught on the counter.

Tough night for the Dutchman up against Gordon in front of the red-hot home crowd.

William Saliba – 4

Let frustration get the better of him when he got himself booked for grabbing Anthony Gordon’s shirt.

And the winger almost embarrassed him again at the start of the second period when he caught the defender sleeping, nicked the ball from him, but could only shoot wide.

The usually assured star will be having nightmares of Gordon and Isak.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6

Another who struggled to contain Toon’s two pacey attacking threats but did fair slightly better than his usually formidable partner.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 7

Another assured performance from the full-back in a raucous atmosphere.

Could not be faulted for any of the goals and showed flashes off his potential despite the humbling.

Martin Odegaard – 6

Everything Arsenal did try came through the skipper.

Although he loses a mark as things could have been a very different story if he had finished his first half effort had hit the inside rather than outside of the post.

Thomas Partey – 6

Plenty of running about but very little to show or product for his efforts.

Declan Rice – 6

Looked to take a knock late in the first half and continued to struggle on after the restart.

Was hung out to dry by his goalie for the second goal and he did keep pushing until the very end.

But it was a disappointing night for the England star and his partner Partey as they came up short against Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Gabriel Martinelli – 5

Struggled to get past big Dan Burn during his brief time on the pitch.

And his night was brought to an abrupt end when he limped off before the break.

Kai Havertz – 4

Outmuscled, outbattled and outthought but Svan Botman and Fabian Schar.

Produced zilch on an evening when he and his team-mates lacked creativity and ideas.

Leandro Trossard – 5

Many will have been fancying him to cause some problems for the 34-year-old Kieran Trippier but the veteran had him in his pocket all night.

Arteta had seen enough by the hour mark and opted to let Raheem Sterling have a go instead.

Subs used

Ethan Nwaneri (37 mins for Martinelli) – 6

Desperately tried to inject some pace and threat into the faltering Arsenal attack but the task proved too much for the young Gunn.

He should have plenty more big occasions to look forward to though in his career.

Mikel Merino (70 mins for Odegaard) – 5

The game was already done and dusted when he entered the fray for battle.

Some nice touches, but like those before him, he couldn’t produce anything for the visitors.

Raheem Sterling (61 mins for Trossard) – 4

Got half an hour to try and get at Trippier but, just like Trossard before him, he was not given an ounce of joy.

Riccardo Calafiori (78 mins for Timber) – 4

Was brought on simply to get some minutes in his legs.

Jorginho (78 mins for Partey) – 4

See above. Little chance to make an impact with the game well and truly over.

Love Island’s Elma and Sammy were dating BEFORE All Stars and faked getting together say fans as they spot three ‘clues’

LOVE Island fans are convinced Sammy and Elma were dating before appearing on the show.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a major clue that indicates the All Stars couple were already romantically involved.

Fans have watched the pair become closer in the South African villa, despite cracks along the way.

However, with the finale just days away, it’s now emerged Sammy and Elma were close before the show.

Eight weeks ago Elma, 32, commented on a post of Sammy’s and dropped multiple heart hands emojis.

Replying, TOWIE star Sammy commented with the couple holding hands emoji.

Meanwhile, Elma and Sammy are set to be dumped from the villa, according to the bookies.

William Hill have placed Grace Jackson and Luca Bish as the front-runners for this year’s series, with Gabby Allen and Casey O’Gorman not far behind them.

Just two weeks ago Elma was voted ‘favourite girl’ by the public – but it seems the general opinion of the Towie star has changed dramatically.

Furious fans have slammed Elma for her behaviour towards Ekin-Su as the two girls locked horns.

The Love Island finale will air this Monday night from 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Meanwhile, The Sun exclusively revealed that axed Islanders are heading back to shake things up before Monday’s grand finale.

Rather than just stirring the pot, the returning cast will hold serious power – deciding who stays and who goes from the three couples left vulnerable by the latest public vote.

Love Island All Stars 2025 official line-up

Love Island All Stars is back on TV for season 2.

Here we take you through the line-up of all the Islanders who are in the villa so far.

Bombshells

Each series brings with it a string of hot single bombshells making their epic entrance into the villa.

‘Micro adventure’ generator helps families have more days out closer to home this half term – input YOUR postcode

A ‘MICRO adventure’ generator has been created to help families have more days out closer to home.

You can use the generator by clicking here.

Some 65 per cent of parents admit to using screen time to entertain their kids[/caption]

Simply input your postcode, with key details about what kind of trip you want to take – and the tool will suggest options for a perfect journey this half term.

Select establishments have even been named “Top Micro Adventure Location” – adorned with a sticker so travellers know they’re in for a good time.

It comes after research of 1,000 parents with children aged 5-11, commissioned by temporary car insurance provider Tempcover, found 98 per cent struggle with finding fun and engaging activities for their children, during school breaks.

As a result of a lack of inspiration, 65 per cent of parents rely on screen time to keep kids entertained – so 54 per cent often seek out ideas online for inspiration.

While nearly four in ten (37 per cent) would feel more confident in planning trips if they had better access to information on where to go.

Marc Pell, managing director for Tempcover said: “You don’t have to jet off abroad or stick to the same old soft play centres, parks and coffee shops this half term, instead, exploring nearby gems could lead to even greater family adventures.

“Our Micro Adventures generator is designed to be a valuable resource, helping parents uncover fresh and exciting activities just a short drive from their doorstep.”

And while 57 per cent do some planning for the school breaks, they also like to leave a little room for spontaneity.

With 15 per cent often deciding on activities at the last minute, and just under a tenth (eight per cent) not planning at all – and simply ‘going with the flow’.

Around three quarters (70 per cent), however, feel pressure to make school breaks as fun and exciting as possible for their children.

At the same time, 91 per cent consider it important for their family to experience new and unique experiences together, according to the OnePoll.com data.

Travelling and day trips (54 per cent) were voted the best way of creating meaningful memories, followed by a visit to the beach (52 per cent) or going swimming or to a water park (35 per cent).

More than half (54 per cent) say more affordable options would make parents feel more confident in their holiday planning.

But for just under a quarter (23 per cent), better access to transport would go a long way to boosting their activities.

And 34 per cent would be motivated to go on more adventures if they could split the driving

Marc Pell from Tempcover, added: “The half term break is a great opportunity for families to connect, which is why it’s important to ensure everyone enjoys it to the fullest.

“A family road trip is the perfect way to escape the everyday routine and create memories that will last a lifetime.

“You don’t even need to own a car with temporary car insurance – you can borrow one for the day, or parents can also take turns driving to lighten the load.

“That way, you can focus on what truly matters – spending quality time together and making lasting memories.”

One of the UK’s most beautiful landmarks to get £191million upgrade

THE Barbican is about to go under a well-needed restoration.

The centre which opened in 1982 is getting a makeover confirmed at £191million so far with every part of the buildings being restored and revitalised if their plans get approved.

The performing arts centre in the heart of Barbican with people calling it a “wonder of the world” and was even named one of the most beautiful landmarks in the UK by Time Out.

The Barbican hosts around 70 concerts a year in the hall and it can seat almost 2000 people.

The centre sees million of visitors every year and is incredibly popular with another praising the “beautiful courtyard” and adding it’s “perfect place to spend an entire day”.

But due to damage over the years, the Barbican has submitted plans for well-needed updates to restore the building, which has “deteriorated significantly”.

The update will refresh everything from the outside to building systems including the boiler which will be restored after being affected by erosion.

One of the best and free attractions in the UK is the Barbican’s conservatory that is home to thousands of species of plants including banana trees, cacti, yuccas and Swiss cheese plant.

But, it needs updating because the roof has glazing that is at risk of caving in and is covered by a safety net.

With the Barbican conservatory becoming a wedding venue on Saturdays, it means it’s generally closed to the public.

So, the renovation includes a proposal of a separate events space which allows the conservatory to be open to the public for longer.

There are also plans to rip out a staircase and a lift put in to improve accessibility, and put in toilets across all floors of the building.

The courtyard by the pond outside will also be repaved, which will stop water leaking down onto the Metropolitan Line below.

The outside area will also get a makeover with new fountains and seating for people to enjoy when the sun is shining.

The funding comes from the City of London Corporation which owns the site – but they still need more to cover the full cost of the renovation.

If plans get approve they will start the work in 2027[/caption]

A fundraising campaign will be launched later in 2025 to raise more funds for the project that will take it up to £250million.

The plans are spread over five years and are due to start in 2027 and be completed in 2032.

Philippa Simpson, Director of Buildings and Renewal at the Barbican, said: “The Barbican has always been about Renewal, a beacon of an optimistic future in the wake of the Second World War.

“This project is rooted in the vision and ambition of its founders, to reimagine what an arts centre can be in the 21st century, a vital, creative space for everyone.”

Here is some more from Sun Travel about the Barbican and why you should visit the conservatory with exotic plants.

And the unique Barbican estate that was used as a movie set for the likes of James Bond.

Here's a rainforest in the UK with more than 800 types of plants and animcals...

The Living Rainforest is in the tiny village of Hampstead Norreys in Berkshire.

Run by the Trust for Sustainable Living, as many as 100,000 people visit a year. Inside are three glasshouses, with more than 800 types of plants and animals – many of which are free-roaming.

This includes the blue poison dart frog as well as pythons and toucans. The larger mammals include the two-toed sloth which is free-roaming and a six-banded armadillo.
