Celtic 1 Bayern Munich 2: Harry Kane strike gives Germans victory as Bhoys rally late on to keep slim hopes alive

HARRY KANE stuck a dagger through the hearts of Celtic and left them needing a Champions League miracle at Bayern Munich.

It’s been centuries since an Englishman was handed as much freedom in Scotland as he was at Parkhead in the 49th minute.

And he ruthlessly pounced unmarked to volley home and follow Michael Olise’s opener, leaving Brendan Rodgers’ side with a mountain to climb next Tuesday.

But the Hoops managed to salvage a slither of hope as Daizen Maeda pulled one back late on.

It all started with another spine-tingling pre-match atmosphere that then exploded again 30 seconds after kick off.

Nicolas Kuhn slammed it past Manuel Neuer from 25 yards only for an offside flag to spoil the party with Adam Idah the guilty party.

That denied the 25-year-old German a goal against his old club and hopes of repeating the trick legitamately soon ended.

Bayern took control and their probing passing finally got through and set alarms bells ringing on half hour when Leroy Sane failed to connect properly from close-range.

Kane then got his first sniff and should have finished only to instead head straight at Schmeichel’s legs, although his blushes were somewhat spared by a late offside flag.

The England captain, already on 28 this term going into this, got a second bite of the cherry in the closing stages of the opening period but this time headed into the side-netting.

Luckily for Bayern Olise had his shooting boots on, and he broke the deadlock in thunderous fashion at a killer time for Celtic.

The ex-Crystal Palace winger cut brilliantly inside Greg Taylor and smashed it straight into the top corner from inside the corner of the box with the last kick of the half.

It was the first time in almost 17 years that Celtic had not recorded a shot, never mind on target, in the first half of a Champions League match.

The omens weren’t looking great for them either with Bayern going on to win 40 of the past 42 when they had led at the break in the competition and drawing the other two.

And Vincent Kompany’s boys were in no mood to break that run here.

They doubled their advantage just four minutes after the restart with Kane getting third time lucky.

He volleyed in from a corner at the back post from six yards out as both Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers pointed the finger of blame at each other.

Celtic were fuming when a VAR check ruled Arne Engels had not been fouled by Dayot Upamecano.

Hope looked to be fading when Daizen Maeda fired wide from a tight angle after rounding Neuer but their was still a late twist.

But the Japanese international was perfectly placed to help the ball in late on after Yang Hyun-Jun’s turn and shot to set up a frantic finish.

Backed by a thunderous crowd, Celtic huffed and puffed for an equaliser, but Bayern held firm to escape Scotland with the first leg advantage.

Love Island All Stars fans spot ‘clue’ that proves Sammy Root is ‘going off’ Elma Pazar amid villa feud

LOVE Island fans have spotted a ‘clue’ proving Sammy Root is ‘going off’ Elma Pazar.

Viewers watched as tensions boiled over in the villa between the two couples.

Ekin-Su staunchly defended her man Curtis after Elma said he was ‘not her cup of tea’.

Elma said: “He was nob back then [in her series].

“He ain’t my cup of tea… he ain’t even my lukewarm cup of p***.”

Sammy looked visibly uncomfortable and told her to “chill out”.

Picking up on his reply, eagle-eyed fans are convinced that was a clue proving the hunk is ‘going off’ Elma.

One said: “Sammy just got the ick.”

A second wrote: “You can see Sammy catching the ick off Elma with every vile word she spits out.”

“Lol not Sammy saying chill out now, he’s getting put off for sure,” said a third.

Meanwhile, All Stars fans think they’ve worked out the ‘real reason’ Elma is lashing out at Ekin-Su.

Some viewers reckon her recent outbursts all stem from an incident two weeks ago.

It was when the Islanders headed to the beach bar and a public vote revealed Elma to be the most popular girl.

She was then given the power – alongside most popular boy Luca – to spend home their co-stars.

Inside Nasa’s sci-fi movie battle to save earth from asteroid strike that could cause more damage than 100 nuclear bombs

IF you’ve got any plans for December 22, 2032, you might want to bring them forward.

Because the chance of an asteroid the size of a football pitch hitting Earth on that date has just doubled.

If the giant rock is on a collision course with our planet, it could rip through the atmosphere at 38,000mph and wreak more devastation than 100 nuclear bombs.

At the moment humankind does not have a foolproof plan to prevent such a catastrophe, despite Nasa’s sci-fi-sounding Planetary Defence Team, set up to detect hazardous asteroids and comets that come within 30 million miles of Earth.

And scientists are worried that we won’t be ready to put current options into action in seven years’ time.

The potential defence systems sound like something out of the Hollywood movies Armageddon or Deep Impact.

They include deflecting the asteroid — named 2024 YR4 — away from a dangerous trajectory or blowing it up with a nuclear device.

Illustration of methods to deflect asteroids, including using nukes, drills, rockets, and gravity tractors.

Astronomer Dr David Whitehouse warned: “We cannot ignore this rock. It has the potential, the possibility, for being an emergency for planet Earth.

“We might even have to consider the severe measures of sending up a nuclear weapon to the surface of this asteroid in order to deflect it further.”

Asteroid 2024 YR4 was first spotted on December 27 thanks to the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (Atlas) in Chile.

Travelling through space 515,000 miles from Earth, its chances of hitting our planet were initially calculated at one in 83. But now those odds have shortened to a one in 43 shot (2.3 per cent).

That’s only slightly less chance than Premier League side Ipswich Town have of winning the FA Cup this year.

The UK National Space Operations Centre monitors up to 300 Near-Earth Objects (Neos) every month.

But most of them are too small to pose a threat or too unlikely to reach our atmosphere.

What has concerned scientists about Asteroid 2024 YR4 is its estimated size — between 130 and 300ft wide — and the uncertainty about its position.

That’s big enough to destroy most of a large city.

Dr Robin George Andrews, the British author of How To Kill An Asteroid, is worried we do not have enough time to stop it.

Of the possibility of a mission to deflect it, he tells The Sun: “They can do this. But you want as many years as possible. It’s a bit tight.”

American space agency Nasa started formulating a test mission for deflecting an asteroid in 2015.

Dr Andrews thinks a lot more work needs to be done[/caption]

A Double Asteroid Redirection Test (Dart), in September 2022, was successful, nudging the 581ft diameter Dimorphos — which was no threat to Earth — into a new orbit around parent asteroid Didymos.

But the spacecraft took nearly a year to reach its target and the mission took seven years in total from conception to impact.

We only have that amount of time to prevent 2024 YR4 hitting Earth, and Dr Andrews thinks a lot more work needs to be done.

He explains: “It did change the Dimorphos orbit, but it’s still a small change. It’s not like you’re playing pool and you’re knocking it.

“You need a huge spacecraft to do that kind of thing.

“The reason you need a fair number of years to do this in real life is because if you deflect an asteroid, you want to be sure you are deflecting it completely away from the Earth by the time it actually comes around.

“If you deflect it, but not emphatically enough, you might deflect it into another part of the Earth. So you have to be really careful.”

Currently the UK is not in 2024 YR4’s path.

Currently, we don’t have the technology for such a mission.

Dr Andrews

The “impact corridor” includes the eastern Pacific Ocean, northern South America, the Atlantic Ocean, Africa, the Arabian Sea and South Asia.

Astronomers will only be able to observe the potentially deadly celestial object until May at the latest, then they won’t see it again until 2028.

For that reason, the James Webb Space Telescope has been tasked for the first time with observing a Near Earth Object to calculate the risk.

The largest telescope in space, it has been orbiting the sun, a million miles away from Earth, since January 2022 and can view asteroids in infrared vision, allowing their size to be better understood.

If we don’t know the danger posed by 2024 YR4 before it goes out of view, scientists believe we will have to prepare for the worst.

Professor Brian Cox wrote on X/Twitter: “Interesting situation — if the probability remains this high then we will have to make a decision on preparing a deflection mission — which would be a good investment even if (as is most likely) we don’t need to use it this time.”

Nuking it

China is also taking these rogue asteroids seriously, by developing a plan to hit one with a spacecraft.

But Dr Andrews feels the European Space Agency needs to put more funds into this field.

He argues that defending planet Earth is not as expensive as you might imagine.

He says: “Planetary defence is remarkably cheap. The Dart mission costs about $325million, which again, sounds like a lot, but that’s the price of a high-end luxury yacht.”

If humankind can’t unite in time to deflect the asteroid, the other answer would be nuking it.

Dr Andrews says: “Another option is vaporising it.”

Currently, though, we don’t have the technology for such a mission.

Thankfully, if all else fails there should be enough time to evacuate any city that could be hit.

Right now I am not losing sleep over Asteroid 2024 YR4.

Dr Robert Massey

And the other good news is that the odds are changing all the time.

But there are plenty of other asteroids flying through space that we have not yet observed.

There are so-called “planet killers” in the universe.

If one was rated ten on the Torino scale of risk, it “may threaten the future of civilisation as we know it”.

Such events only take place on Earth once every 100,000 years on average.

For that reason Nasa hopes to launch a Neo surveyor in two years’ time to look for hazardous objects.

Dr Robert Massey, deputy executive director of the Royal Astronomical Society, concluded: “Right now I am not losing sleep over Asteroid 2024 YR4.

“But one day, one of these asteroids will be on course to hit Earth and we need to be prepared for that.”

Everton and Liverpool stars sent off in post-match brawl as police intervene with Slot seeing red after handshake stunt

THE final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park ended in chaos as a mass brawl erupted on the field – with even Arne Slot seeing red.

James Tarkowski netted a dramatic equaliser in the eighth minute of added time for Everton, levelling the game at 2-2.

Slot’s Liverpool were denied the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League to 9 points.

And tempers flared after the final whistle, with Curtis Jones in the middle of a huge fracas.

Police and stewards were seen intervening to get between the players, as Jones tussled with Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Doucoure appeared to celebrate Everton‘s late equaliser in front of the travelling support, with an incensed Jones confronting him.

Jones and Doucoure had picked up bookings in what was a bad-tempered encounter.

They were booked again by ref Michael Oliver, resulting in a red card for both.

Tempers appeared to be cooling as Everton players crossed the field to celebrate with their fans.

But Slot wasn’t done – and promptly saw red for a bizarre handshake with ref Oliver.

The Liverpool boss approached the whistler and appeared to hold onto his hand when Oliver tried to pull his away.

He was immediately shown a straight red, despite the protests of Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk.

Everton began the night brilliantly, with Beto giving the Toffees a deserved early lead.

But Liverpool hit back through Alexis MacAllister and Mo Salah, with the three points looking set to head back across Stanley Park.

Tarkowski was sent forward by Moyes in the final seconds of the game.

And the centre-back thundered in a stunning strike on the volley to take the roof off.

Coming soon: Katie Price’s most honest ever interview in Sun Club.

TV’s Katie, 46, fears he may die without help.

The 22-year-old struggles with Prader-Willi syndrome. Sole carer Katie, consulted top doctors who suggested starting Harvey on the jabs in the hope it will save and improve his life.

Speaking today to raise awareness and help parents with children in a similar situation, TV personality Katie said: “It’s really, really serious and life-changing for Harvey.

“He’s at risk of a heart attack, and because of his condition, he’s not getting any smaller.

“He’s putting on weight. It doesn’t matter what we do.

“He can’t put his shoes on without sweating. He can’t walk far because he gets out of breath.

“It’s because of all the weight. So the doctors are doing it to give him a better, longer life, and for his health.”

Harvey battles a series of debilitating conditions including autism, septo-optic dysplasia, ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder.

He is still treated at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for children even though he’s an adult.

Mum-of-five Katie said: “The good thing about starting him on the drug is, if it has any effect, you can stop it because you do it weekly.

“We’ve tried food, he’s had dietitians, it’s just the way he is.

“And he’s on a lot of medication which the drug won’t affect.

“They want to try him on it for at least one or two years, which is a long time, but they’ll control what level he needs then up it as they assess it.”

Katie

Brave Katie has raised visually-impaired Harvey herself after ex-footballer Dwight Yorke refused to have anything to do with his son.

She will help Harvey with the jabs. Once he loses weight he may then have an operation to cut off any excess skin.

Katie is an ardent campaigner for disability rights.

She has spoken extensively about the challenges of parenting someone with additional needs.

In 2018, Katie went to Parliament with her campaign to make online abuse a criminal offence after her son was trolled.

MPs launched an inquiry after a petition she started was backed by more than 200,000 people.

She told the Commons petitions committee that “the most horrific things” had been said about Harvey on social media.

She detailed their struggles in 2021 BBC documentary Harvey and Me. That year she launched a Track A Troll petition to make it more difficult for trolls to be anonymous.

Weight-loss jabs have been big in the US since 2018, and become more widespread here in the past 18 months. A recent report suggested more than a million Brits will be using them by October.

Sun GP Dr Zoe Williams said: “A recognised symptom of Prader-Willi syndrome is an everyday constant insatiable hunger and desire to eat which is more pronounced than most of us will ever experience.

“Managing weight is practically impossible so it makes sense that medical teams would consider weight-loss injections as a therapy for these patients.

“For those who have life- threatening levels of obesity, weight-loss injections, alongside other aspects of clinical care, can potentially be life saving.”

What Abdoulaye Doucoure did to anger Liverpool fans and spark brawl after Everton draw

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones fought in front of Liverpool fans after the 2-2 draw with Everton

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were at the centre of a huge bust-up in the immediate aftermath of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton on Wednesday night.

Liverpool appeared to be on course to secure a 2-1 victory in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park but James Tarkowski struck in the eighth minute of injury time to rescue a draw for David Moyes’ men.

Doucoure then sparked a mass brawl between both sets of players immediately after the full-time whistle as he celebrated Everton’s last-gasp goal directly in front of Liverpool’s supporters in the away section.

Television replays caught Doucoure making a shushing gesture towards the Liverpool fans before Jones rushed over to push the Everton midfielder.

Jones rushed over and Doucoure by the shirt before he was pulled away by Ashley Young and Carlos Alcaraz.

Both sets of players then rushed in with both police and matchday stewards forced to step in to stop the fighting.

Doucoure was also seen making a talking gesture with his hand towards Virgil van Dijk as he was leaving the pitch.

Both Doucoure and Jones were sent off by referee Michael Oliver after the full-time whistle, while Liverpool manager Arne Slot and assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff was also given a red card.
