Soap's most harrowing teen storylines
We take a look at other harrowing teen soap storylines from soaps Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.
Belle Dingle’s schizophrenia in Emmerdale – Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) traumatic journey in Emmerdale took a dark turn when, after accidentally killing her best friend Gemma at just 16, her mental health began to spiral.
The storyline, which saw Belle struggling with her grief and guilt, showcased her battle with hearing Gemma’s voice inside her head, leading to a dramatic decline in her well-being.
Hannah Ashworth’s anorexia in Hollyoaks – Viewers were horrified as they watched Hannah (Emma Rigby), a seemingly innocent teen, spiral into dangerous behavior, starving herself in an attempt to achieve what she thought was the ideal body.
As Hannah’s condition worsened, the storyline became more intense, culminating in her being hospitalised for two months as she fought for her life.
Bethany Platt’s grooming ordeal in Coronation Street – Vulnerable schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, was at the centre of one of Corrie’s darkest storylines to date when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator.
The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her.
Whitney Dean’s abuse from Tony in EastEnders – Since the age of 12, she had been in a twisted relationship with her stepmum Bianca’s boyfriend, Tony King. The predator had groomed young Whit (Shona McGarty), making her believe she was in love and planning to run away with him.
On her 16th birthday, the traumatised teen finally revealed the years of abuse to Bianca. Tony was swiftly sent to prison sentenced for 13 years.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.

On EastEnders, Reiss previously suffocated his comatose wife Debbie due to the financial burden her care was putting on his relationship with Sonia (Natalie Cassidy).
In an effort to escape Reiss’ clutches during Sonia’s trial and ensure the acquittal of her sister, Bianca (Patsy Palmer) recorded a fake confession tape.
This week, Sonia made a chilling discovery when she noticed the dolls house that Reiss bought was in the background of Bianca’s confession video.
Reiss also forgot to properly seal the lock on the storage unit after his last visit.
After a huge confrontation with Sonia and Bianca, Reiss then goes on the run.
At number 25 Albert Square, Sonia will beg her sister to attend Honey and Billy’s wedding with her.
She is convinced they have to at least try to return to a normal state, even though Reiss is still at large.
However, when she emerges from her hibernation, Bianca is less than impressed to run into Grant (Ross Kemp), and they then begin to row.
In the end, Bianca will accompany Sonia to the celebrations as they both attempt to put on a brave face.
However, they will also be unaware that Reiss has returned to Walford and they will both be in serious danger.
Bianca will returns home from the wedding, only for Reiss to quietly creep into their home.
Her worst nightmare comes true and the pair are set to come face to face again in a new confrontation.

February 12, 2025New York StateComments Off on Prince William’s ex-flying instructor dies of cancer aged 47 after ‘years of inhaling toxic fumes’
PRINCE William’s military flying instructor has died of cancer after years of exposure to toxic helicopter exhaust fumes.
Flight Sergeant Zach Stubbings passed away aged 47 after over a decade of battling multiple myeloma – cancer of the blood and bone marrow.
The SunFormer RAF Winch Operator Zach Stubbings was diagnosed in 2013[/caption]
AFPPrince William pictured flying a Sea King helicopter in 2011[/caption]
The dad-of-three was diagnosed in 2013, thirteen years after joining the RAF Search and Rescue.
Zach trained Prince William when he was based at RAF Valley in Anglesey from 2010 to 2013.
The future King regularly flew Sea King helicopters – the same aircrafts as Zach.
Zach’s passing was announced by Richard Sutton, a former Navy Commander and pilot who was also diagnosed with cancer 12 years ago.
Richard has epithelioid fibrosarcoma – a vicious cancer that often starts in the bone before spreading elsewhere.
Richard called Zach a “lively and bubbly guy” and said that his death was “yet another blow” for his wife Anna-Louise, who tragically lost her first husband and seven-year-old in a car crash in 2015.
Richard and Zach are not alone – hundreds of fellow members of the Armed Forces have also been diagnosed with rare and deadly cancers which they claim were caused by exposure to fumes.
As well as multiple myeloma, former service men and women who have flown Sea King, Wessex and Puma and Chinook helicopters have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, throat cancer, lung cancer and testicular cancer.
Prince William has been pictured flying Sea King helicopters in the early 2010s.
Zach previously told MailOnline that he was often surrounded by black exhaust fumes.
In an interview last year, he told the publication: “If you’re by the cargo door, the exhaust comes right through.
“Even worse, if you’re working on the winch, which I was, you’re putting your head right out into it.
“We had to clean everything. It didn’t feel right. There was no protection, nothing. We all complained about it.”
He said how he would often get “a face full” of the sooty fumes, noting the dreadful smell.
Zach and Richard set up a Whatsapp chat called Fly Hard, Fight Hard in 2013 to share support and raise awareness with other colleagues.
The group, which had the motto ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’, contained three other staff members who had been diagnosed with throat and lung cancers – despite never smoking.
Tragically, two of the original five died in 2023 and four others also died in the last 20 months.
Richard’s disease started in his neck and spread across his jaw and heart – with one throat tumour so large that he struggled to breathe.
After doctors told him that it was inoperable due to the proximity to a major blood vessel connected to the brain, he started saying his goodbyes to his family.
Thankfully, the decision was overruled and a team of surgeons operated and were able to remove the tumour entirely.
Richard, who flew Sea King aircrafts, said the helicopters burned aviation fuel, which he explained would billow through the doors.
Last year, theMinistry of Defence(MoD) launched a probe into all military helicopters that may have emitted toxic exhaust fumes, as reported by The Times.
An MoD spokesman said: “Any death is a tragedy and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Zack Stubbins at this difficult time.
“We take the health of our personnel extremely seriously and regularly review our processes to ensure that we’re doing what we can to keep our people safe.
“We are in the process of testing the exhaust emissions of in-service helicopters, to ensure that we are meeting our duty of care for personnel.
“It is essential that we can assure our people of their safety at work.”
The Sun has approached the MoD for comment.

RexVinicius Jr claims a trolling tifo from Man City fans backfired massively last night[/caption]
RexThe banner mocked Vinicius Jr by showing Rodri with the Ballon d’Or trophy[/caption]
The meeting marked the fourth successive year the two giants had met in Europe.
Real Madrid chiefs were left incensed when they discovered their Brazilian maestro had finished runner-up.
And the Spanish club ended up boycotting the award ceremony as Rodri, who was injured at the time and remains sidelined with the same ACL problem, collected his award on crutches.
City’s tifo looked to have worked a treat as they twice went ahead, with Erling Haaland’s second goal coming from the penalty spot in the 80th minute.
But after Kylian Mbappe had netted the first equaliser, former City youngster Brahim Diaz levelled things up again in the 86th minute before Bellingham struck his 92nd minute winner.
The England star was teed up by Vinicius Jr for the defining strike.
And Real’s flying winger now admits he was fired up to perform after seeing City fans’ tifo in the stands.
He said: “I saw the banner. Whenever the opposing fans do things like that they give me more strength to have a great game and here I have done it.”
On the win, Vinicius Jr added: “They know our history, everything we do in this competition.
“It is the fifth time we come here, it is always very cold, but this time we have won and we have to continue this.”
