Ambulance crew rush to Taiwo Awoniyi’s aid after Forest star left with blood pouring down face after horror collision

TAIWO AWONIYI was left with blood pouring from his face after a horror clash in Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup clash.

The striker was caught in the face while challenging for the ball in the closing stages against Exeter City in the fourth-round tie.

Awoniyi, 27, appeared to be accidentally caught by the elbow of Exeter City goalkeeper Joe Whitworth.

The striker could be seen in pain on the ground with blood pouring from his nose.

An ambulance crew were seen rushing to to give him aid on the pitch.

Fans shared their concern for the injured star as they reacted on social media.

One posted: “I hope Awoniyi is okay.”

A second commented: “Forest Awoniyi just took a faceful of elbow.

“Looked nasty, nothing the young Exeter keeper Whitworth could do having got to the ball first.”

A third wrote: “That doesn’t look good for Awoniyi.”

Awoniyi had already left his mark on the game as he fired in Nottingham Forest’s second of the match.

The Premier League side fell behind early on as Josh Magennis pounced on an error from Carlos Miguel.

Ramon Sosa netted the equaliser for Forest before Awoniyi’s strike.

Magennis then dragged Exeter level in the second half to frustrate Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The Masked Singer fans convinced EastEnders ‘gave away’ that Natalie Cassidy was Bush MONTHS before she was unmasked

MASKED Singer fans are convinced EastEnders ‘gave away’ Natalie Cassidy’s involvement in the show months ago.

Last weekend the soap star – who has quit as Sonia Fowler after 32 years – was unmasked as Bush.

The star was written out of the soap at the same time The Masked Singer was filming[/caption]

Natalie, 41, was booted from The Masked Singer last Saturday where her identity was revealed.

As fans correctly guessed it was her, the soap star took to social media to show her friends and family’s reactions after keeping it hidden from them.

But now eagle-eyed viewers have spotted how EastEnders bosses ‘gave away’ her involvement in the show.

The Masked Singer was filmed last summer – right about the point Natalie took a break from EastEnders.

Her character Sonia was then wrongly charged with murder and put behind bars before standing trial.

Taking to a web forum, one fan said: “I remember we said in the early weeks that time-wise it fitted with Natalie being off-screen with Sonia in prison but I just couldn’t pick up on the clues in recent weeks.”

A second wrote: “I wasn’t convinced until one of her recent interviews about EE allowing her to do things while under contract, things they don’t normally allow.”

Speaking about taking party, Natalie said: “When you think something is really scary and you can’t think of anything worse – but you know it will be fun… DO IT.

“I am not a singer, but I was made to feel like one! I had the most amazing time doing this show.

“I was absolutely petrified, but everyone looked after me and I felt so loved. To see the kids so excited when I was unmasked was the best thing ever. So happy the secret is out!”

Natalie left soap fans stunned earlier this month when she made the decision to quit EastEnders after 32 years as Sonia Fowler.

The Sun exclusively revealed the shock news first ahead of her final scenes this month.

Who has left The Masked Singer 2025 so far?

Much to the delight of telly fans, The Masked Singer is back in 2025.

Twelve celebrities have been hidden behind intricate costumes, with their identities concealed.

Sadly, not all of this year’s whacky and wonderful characters can make it to the end of the show, as there can only be one winner.

Here’s who has been unmasked so far:

Bush – she didn’t fool viewers and the judges were so close, but Bush was in fact EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy. Davina McCall came closest, guessing Morgana Robinson, who does a mean impression of the Sonia actress

Bear – another success for new judge Maya Jama as she guessed correctly that the singing Bear was none other than singer, songwriter Example – real name Elliot Gleave

Snail – this singer certainly fooled the judges as the mask was lifted to reveal Andrea Corr. Jonathan Ross admitted to being a huge fan of The Corrs

Kingfisher – everyone was convinced this was Harry Hill, but the mask was lifted to reveal artist Sir Grayson Perry, who is known for his alter-ego Claire

Teeth – this character baffled judges and viewers with their changing voice. They were finally unmasked as former Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc. None of the panel managed to guess it was her

Tattoo – despite Davina McCall saying “you sound the same” after this character was unmasked, none of the judges guessed it was 80s singer Carol Decker, whose hit China In Your Hand was a No1 hit for five weeks

Toad In The Hole – a massive diva strop saw the character storm off the stage after the judges voted them off. They later returned to be unmasked as singer Macy Gray

Pegasus – the mythical horse was revealed to be Prue Leith, with judge Jonathan Ross correctly guessing her identity

Spag Bol – this character was first to be unmasked and was none other than Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway.

Plus there was one extra unmasking this season, with Giant Joel – a caricature of host Joel Dommett – unveiled as double-double Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah.

Government must revamp vetting rules to enable police to root out rotten apples if it won’t alter Human Rights Act

Police farce

IT is farcical yet grimly predictable that our human rights laws would find AGAINST the public interest and FOR potential predators in the police.

Met chief Mark Rowley is rightly outraged. The clearout of rogue cops his force desperately needs is thwarted.

Metropolitan Police chief Mark Rowley[/caption]

Indeed 96 fired after failing the vetting scheme brought in after Sarah Everard’s murder by PC Wayne Couzens will be reinstated and paid to do nothing.

It is fair to point out that anyone accused of wrongdoing is innocent unless proven otherwise.

And it is vital that vetting is comprehensive and fair.

But cops are a special case.

They wield far more power than ordinary workers.

They have to be 100 per cent trusted, for example, to enter the homes of women or the vulnerable.

Their records should be impeccable or close to it.

If not, they clearly cannot be on the force.

Sgt Lino Di Maria had his vetting removed over two complaints of rape and others of indecent exposure, domestic abuse and inappropriate behaviour — all denied.

But the Human Rights Act loved by the Left has vetoed his sacking and, as Sir Mark says, “left policing in a hopeless position”.

He plans to appeal — but he will always run up against the HRA.

If the Government won’t alter that, it must rapidly revamp vetting rules to enable police to root out rotten apples.

Road rage

FEW things reveal a country economically on its knees quite as visibly as pock-marked roads.

Many of ours would shame the Third World.

Drivers forking out for increasingly eye-watering road tax have a right to ask where the £8.3billion annual proceeds go.

A small fraction builds or fixes roads.

The rest is tipped into the Treasury pot.

So drivers supposedly paying to use our crumbling highways end up funding unrelated services used by non-drivers.

It is increasingly unfair for motorists to be used as cash cows while the Government contributes such a tiny percentage of what our roads actually need.

Meanwhile negligent or skint councils have the brass neck to refuse compensation when potholes wreck vehicles.

A party genuinely putting drivers first will clean up at the polls.

Holy absurd

A HILARIOUS Father Ted episode manages to mock racists — and those hyper-sensitive fools who see racism in everything.

These days we call the latter woke. But they were a thing even in 1998.

The episode itself isn’t racist. So what purpose does Channel 4’s “trigger warning” serve?

It merely covers their backsides against joy-sucking dolts who seek out even the slightest offence . . .

Pandering, then, to the very people the comedy sent up.

Twist in Wynne Evans Strictly scandal as ‘knifed’ star set to take BBC to tribunal over ‘sex joke’ sacking from tour

SINGER Wynne Evans feels he has been “knifed” by the BBC over his Strictly sacking and will not go down without a fight, insiders said last night.

The Go Compare star, 53, is set to take the corporation to a tribunal as he believes his reputation has been unfairly left “in tatters”.

Wynne, circled, made the comment in the controversial video

He wants to contest his dismissal last month after a sexual comment about a “spit-roast” during the tour’s press launch.

Execs at Go Compare, the insurance website which the Welshman has fronted since 2009, are understood to have held crisis meetings about him.

Wynne was also taken off air from his BBC Wales radio show in the wake of the scandal.

A source said: “Wynne’s reputation has been left in tatters and he wants to try to seek some recompense.

“He said he is going to a tribunal with the BBC and will fight with every breath in his body. Wynne feels he has been treated unfairly and won’t go down without a fight.

“As well as an unfair dismissal, Wynne thinks he has a case for loss of earnings, as well as a potential breach of contract. He is being advised by a legal team and thinks he has a strong case to take forward.”

Insiders said Wynne’s controversial “spit-roast” remark — which was captured on video — was not aimed at Strictly pro Janette Manrara as claimed.

He also feels that was known by others who were present at the photo call in Birmingham ahead of the dance show’s live tour.

Our source said: “Wynne knows the meaning behind his comment and, to his frustration, so do many of the pro dancers and celebrities who were on the tour with him.

“He is heartbroken by how this all played out and is upset that no one has spoken out to defend him publicly.

“He knows the language was unacceptable but, ultimately, the meaning behind what he said is not out there.

“It was an ‘in’ joke. It didn’t offend anyone and no one complained. Wynne feels badly let down by the whole process and some of his co-stars who he was incredibly close to.”

After footage of the comment emerged, he was warned about his conduct by the tour boss.

But the BBC said in a statement it did not receive any complaints.

However, a day later he was told he was being kicked off the live shows.

A friend close to Wynne added: “Wynne feels like his sacking was a knee-jerk reaction to public commentary around the joke. He feels as though he has been thrown under the bus.”

Wynne, who earns around £200,000 a year from Go Compare as opera singer Gio Compario, also sparked controversy on the last Strictly series, when he was accused of “groping” his partner Katya Jones, 35, live on air.

Wynne was seen moving his hand along Katya’s waist before she appeared to swat it away.

Later the pair insisted it was a joke in a joint video message.

The Sun also revealed the BBC was aware of concerns about his use of inappropriate language on two other occasions.

One was linked to his radio show while another was during filming of his new All At Sea TV series with actress Joanna Page.

The BBC refused to comment on the latest development.

Fashion chain with 180 shops shuts popular branch after closing down sale launched

FATFACE announced it will be closing one of its major branches at the end of the month.

The lifestyle brand has 180 shops across the country after starting out in France in 1988.

There is a closing down sale at the Gloucester Quays store[/caption]

The Gloucester Quays store will close its doors for the last time on February 22.

According to Gloucester News Centre, up to 10 members of staff will lose their jobs.

FatFace first moved to the unit in May 2022 after it closed its previous store in 2010.

Shoppers will be able to secure huge discounts at the closing-down sale.

The shop proudly focuses on sustainability and is a certified B corporation.

FatFace sells clothing for women, men, teens and children as well as footwear and accessories.

The brand’s founders, Tim Slade and Jules Leaver, named the company after La Face – a black ski run in Val d’Isere, France.

Enjoying the seasonaire lifestyle, the couple would spend their days on the slopes and sold jumpers and fleeces from the back of their campervan in the evenings.

The closure comes just one month after the downfall of its store on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield.

News of the closure has been met with sadness from locals who used the shop to pick up men and women’s clothing, accessories and footwear.

One recently posted a picture of a closing down sign in the shop window on X, adding: “So sad our local FatFace is closing on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield!

“I hope you are planning to open one in the town centre!”.

Another, posting on Facebook, said: “Another long standing shop closing.”

A third said on Facebook: “It’s not long when they will be all eating places.”

FatFace was sold to fashion rival Next in October 2023 in a deal worth £115.2million.

The May before, FatFace’s owners were reported to have appointed Rothschild to advise on strategic options for the company.

In its most recent results, FatFace said despite a tough economic backdrop it had had a “stable” 35 weeks to January 27, 2024.

It said revenue had declined by around £15million from the same period the year before, but cost savings had seen its profit before trading increase to £17.2million from £16.2million over the same time period.

The business also said it continued to operate as a multichannel retailer with physical stores “continuing to play an important role”.

Move to tear-up key legal safeguards for terminally ill adults in assisted dying bill sparks major backlash

PLANS to let terminally ill adults end their lives have been thrown into chaos after moves to tear up key legal safeguards.

Labour’s Kim Leadbeater will amend her legislation so that assisted dying cases will not have to be signify by a High Court judge.

Kim Leadbeater will amend her legislation so that assisted dying cases will not have to be signify by a High Court judge[/caption]

Instead, psychiatrists and social workers will be involved in approving the applications.

She argued it would be a “change for the better” and would actually strengthen safeguards.

But the last-minute tweak, proposed just hours before MPs began debating the Bill on Tuesday, has sparked a backlash — throwing its future into doubt and turning former supporters cold.

It comes after Ms Leadbeater had dismissed warnings that judges couldn’t handle the cases due to scarce capacity, insisting her Bill would be the “most robust” in the world.

Senior Tory James Cleverly blasted: “The protections that were promised in the assisted dying Bill are being watered down even before this becomes law.

“This Bill is being rushed, it is not properly thought through, none of the concerns raised at second reading have been addressed.”

The Bill will face further scrutiny and votes in the Commons and Lords, meaning any change in the law would not be agreed until later this year at the earliest.

Ten Labour MPs, including Meg Hillier and Florence Eshalomi, have warned the Bill has been “fundamentally changed” from what was originally presented to Parliament.

In a statement, they said: “Every MP voted at second reading with a promise of High Court scrutiny of each application for assisted dying.

“Yet despite repeated assurances until just days ago the proponents of the Bill have changed their argument – and fundamentally changed the Bill.”

Man City 2 Real Madrid 3: Heartbreak for hosts as Bellingham snatches 92nd-min winner as hosts throw away late 2-1 lead

THIS night began with a feud over last year’s Ballon d’Or but turned into a shoot-out between three more contenders for football’s golden globe.

Erling Haaland netted twice – his first ever goals against Real Madrid – but Kylian Mbappe shinned a goal for the 15-time European champions and Jude Bellingham slid home for a last-gasp winner, either side of a strike from Real sub Brahim Diaz.

Manchester City must now suffer their annual trial by fire at the Bernabeu with a one-goal deficit heading into next Wednesday’s second leg.

But who knows why City seem so determined to wind up heavyweight opponents recently?

After Haaland had provoked a vengeful Arsenal into a 5-1 gubbing of Pep Guardiola’s at the Emirates nine days earlier, here City were hell-bent on stirring up European football’s mightiest club.

Sure, it was petty of Real to snub last October’s award ceremony after City’s Rodri pipped Vinicius Jr to the title of the world’s player of the year.

But why go out of your way to make them angry – this team of all teams.

City cranked up the aggro by unfurling a huge banner of their injured midfielder kissing his golden ball with the words ‘Stop crying your heart out’.

Rodri was spotted in the stands taking a photo of this and in the players’ tunnel, there were similar images to welcome Madrid’s players.

And ultimately City ended up with egg on their faces again.

This was football’s version of Hollywood – players currently employed by City and Real occupied all of the top six places in those Ballon d’Or voting.

It high-quality, high-tempo, incident-packed and utterly breathless – just as it always is when the champions of England and Spain meet.

This has become an annual collision, usually in the latter stages, but here were the top two clubs in the Deloitte Money League scrapping it out in a play-off round for the right to reach the last 16.

Guardiola didn’t include any of his £180million January recruits in his starting line-up but sprang a surprise by starting Jack Grealish ahead of Phil Foden

City had five specialist centre-backs in their starting line-up – John Stones in midfield and four strung across the back.

But Real, suffering a defensive injury crisis to rival Tottenham’s only had one young reserve central defender, Raul Asencio, available as Ancelotti employed two regular midfielders in defence.

In attack, though, Real go from famine to feast. From the off, they set about City by pinging passes at improbable angles at an impossible tempo.

Vinicius was floored by Ederson, who was rescued by an offside flag, and then got down well to keep out Kylian Mbappe after a gorgeous pass from the scorned Vinicius.

Then Ferland Mendy had a shot blocked by Nathan Ake and City were looking dizzy right up until the moment they scored.

Grealish played a delightful chipped pass into an advanced Josko Gvardiol who chested down for Haaland to lift his shot over Courtois.

Haaland celebrates with Josko Gvardiol[/caption]

It was the Norwegian’s first goal against Real, at his fifth attempt – although it took an an age for VAR to adjudge him onside, presumably a problem with the robot linesman’s wiring.

Grealish, after a bright start, was forced off injured, with Foden arriving and soon having a powerful shot pushed away by Thibaut Courtois.

Vinicius sent a curling effort against the crossbar, Mbappe had a shot deflected but City were gaining far more control in midfield, enjoying far more of the ball.

Rico Lewis replaced Manuel Akanji at half-time and soon Haaland – breaking into beas mode – rattled the crossbar with a blisterling shot.

For all their Hollywood quality in attack, Real were being pulled around frequently when City went forward.

Then the 15-time champions went up a gear – Bellingham heading wide when he should have scored and Mbappe testing Ederson.

These were the warning signs. City didn’t – couldn’t heed them – and on the hour mark, Real were level.

A free-kick was blocked to Dani Ceballos who floated a delicious ball over the top.

The Frenchman fortuitously found the net[/caption]

Mbappe timed his run perfectly but shinned his effort, which looped over Ederson – the ball crossing the line in slow motion – it seemed like several seconds before the Real fans at the very end of the stadium realised their team had scored.

This A-list contest was living up to its billing – Haaland and Mbappe, the leading men on either side, seizing the limelight.

Feeerico Valverde then picked out Bellingham with an extraordinary raking pass but the Englishman’s finish was weak and Ederson saved.

Then came the moment of fortune which swung the match back in City’s favour.

Foden cut inside from the right, beat Mendy and was then too quick for Ceballos who dived in and trod on his feet right on the edge of the area – Clement Turpin pointed to the spot and VAR concurred.

Up stepped Haaland, who had missed a couple during City’s slump, and sent Courtois the wrong way.

But five minutes form time, Vinicius had an agled drive saved by Ederson only for sub Diaz to snap up the rebound for a second Real equaliser.

Real’s winner was a disaster for City – Mateo Kovacic playing a poor ball to Lewis who lost possession, Vinicius chipping Ederson and Bellingham sliding in to score with virtually the last kick of the match.
