Holly Willoughby is fuelled by a simmering ambition that meant she was happy to watch Dancing On Ice roll under a bus
SHE’S a wide-eyed innocent, a naive fawn, the girl next door – or at least that’s what Holly Willoughby’s team would like you to think.
Don’t believe a word of it.

That might be the warm, fuzzy, familiar face who greets us when we turn on our TVs but, make no mistake, you’re dealing with a very calculated operator.
And nothing could illustrate that more than the past 48 hours.
In that time Holly – who’s already consigned This Morning to her distant past – has passively watched as Dancing on Ice rolled under a bus and then simultaneously had it confirmed that she wouldn’t be returning to her last remaining show with ITV, You Bet!
Which means that after more than two decades with ITV she’s free. Free to finally conquer the BBC.
Free to milk the streamers for a cool £10million (at least) and free to become one of the most powerful women on TV, if she chooses. And she will, just you watch.
Because Holly has always shown a quiet, simmering ambition ever since she took her first steps in children’s telly.
Between then and now she’s quit her management agency, YMU, and hired an elite PR team to help boost her image.
The speed at which she distanced herself from fellow This Morning host Phillip Schofield in early 2023 was also palpable.
Then six months later she quit the show entirely as a result of a murder and kidnap plot, just before signing up to front Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt.
And don’t forget that after launching the rebooted You Bet! in 2024, to mediocre ratings, she is now walking away from her own show, claiming that she “couldn’t commit.”
In other words she’s got a better offer…well, good for her.
Because she’s a woman she’ll be perceived as scheming, savage and selfish. But if it were anyone else the descriptions would veer more towards: single-minded, shrewd and selective.
Whatever you think of her, Holly is on the move and on the up – and I wouldn’t advise getting in her way.
Britain’s Got Talent viewers slam show over new Golden Buzzer twist, branding it ‘nonsense and ridiculous’
BRITAIN’S Got Talent viewers have slammed the show over a new Golden Buzzer ‘twist’.
The hit ITV variety show continued on Saturday night with its latest episode as the auditions continued.

It also saw another hopeful make it through all the way to the live shows, thanks to one BGT judge pressing their golden buzzer.
Eleven-year-old Oliver left the judges and audience stunned with his electric guitar performance.
The crowd in the theatre started to chant in unison as they pressured one of the judges to press the golden buzzer after they gave the young lad a standing ovation.
After a few seconds Amanda stood back up as she firmly put both hands on the giant button on the judges desk.
But following the scenes, fans have slammed the constant chanting by the audience for the judges to press their golden buzzer – and called for bosses to step in.
Taking to a web forum, one viewer said: “Oh yeah, the idiots are chanting, decision made.”
A second wrote: “Rentamob with their usual push the button nonsense.”
“They’re inventing buzzers now. OK, so they probably deserved it more than most of the others but…,” said a third.
While a fourth commented: “The audience need to be told to shut up.”
Meanwhile, this week Britain’ Got Talent has been pulled off air in a major ITV schedule.
Due to Six Nations: France v Scotland airing instead, there will be no BGT on that day.
This marks the latest change in a series already experiencing shake-ups to the format.
YouTube star and professional boxer KSI has appeared as a guest judge so far.
BGT's Best Golden Buzzer Moments

BGT have handed out many Golden Buzzer's over the years, can you remember some of the most famous
- Loren Allred – Loren Allred, 32, from Brooklyn, New York jetted to London to audition after recording the vocals for The Greatest Showman. The stunning singer got a standing ovation and a Golden Buzzer from the judges as she delivered a stirring rendition of Never Enough from the popular film. Loren came out on stage and revealed to the judges they would have heard her voice many times before that moment. “I was hired to record the vocals for The Greatest Showman as a guide for the actors to know how to sing the songs,” she explained. Loren then revealed actress Rebecca Ferguson was so stunned by her singing that she decided to let her vocals be heard in the movie. “So she lip-synced,” Loren said.
- Chicken Shed Theatre Company – Comprised of individuals aged between 5 and 37, the group was set up to welcome anyone irrespective of background to get up on stage and perform and fulfil their dream. Chicken Shed prides itself on accepting anyone and does not hold auditions to make the group a safe and inclusive space. The group wowed as they performed Wonder by Naughty Boy featuring Emeli Sande. It meant that Alesha wasted no time as she decided to hit her golden buzzer for the young performers. She told them it was her “honour” to reward their inclusiveness with her golden buzzer.
- The Dancing Granny – Granny Paddy Jones and her professional partner Niko Espinosa first hit headlines when they won the Spanish talent show Tú sí que vales in 2009, before going on to appear on Britain’s Got Talent in 2014 where they came ninth. Amanda Holden was so impressed with Paddy that she gave her the Golden Buzzer, which sent them straight through to the semi-finals. But things took a worrying turn when Paddy cracked a rib while rehearsing a new move and her place on the show was under doubt. She was given the all-clear to perform in the end but didn’t quite live up to expectations.
- Bars and Melody – They will forever be remembered for their anti-bullying song on the talent show. Bars and Melody were first seen on the 2014 series of Britain’s Got Talent, getting shuttled into the semi-finals when Simon Cowell pressed his Golden Buzzer. They made it to the final thanks to a performance of I’ll Be Missing You but lost out on the crown to Collabro. These days Charlie Lenehan – known as Melody – is covered in tattoos, with inkings on his neck, arms and chest. But he is as close as ever to co-star Leondre Devries – who is Bars – with the pair seen enjoying themselves in exotic locations all over the world.
Michail Antonio given hero’s welcome as he returns to West Ham for 1st time since escaping death in horror Ferrari crash
MICHAIL ANTONIO has made an emotional return to West Ham – just months after his horror car crash.
The 34-year-old winger cheated death in December following a terrifying Ferrari wreck.

Antonio was airlifted to hospital after his £260,000 Italian supercar spun off the road near Theydon Bois in Epping.
He suffered a broken leg and numerous other injuries after being trapped in the car for over an hour.
But after a remarkable recovery, the winger was back in the stands at the London Stadium for Monday’s clash with Newcastle.
Antonio was given a hero’s welcome by the Hammers faithful ahead of kick-off in East London.
The forward was presented to the crowd moments before kick-off, where he was given a standing ovation.
Antonio has recently been in light training in Dubai, despite initial fears he might never play again.
But there is no concrete date yet decided for his return to action.
Hammers boss Graham Potter has not ruled out the Jamaican playing again this season.
Cheltenham Festival betting offers and free bets
Potter said last month: “He’s recovering.
“He’s been in Dubai and it’s been good for him to get that work in.
“I wouldn’t want to put any time on [his return to playing] because it’s not fair on him.
“We just take it day-by-day and see.”
A grateful Antonio thanked emergency services for saving his life after he was discharged from hospital on New Year’s Eve.
He wrote on Instagram: “Every year around this time, I’m asked what I’m grateful for, and every year I’ve struggled to find the right words.
“But this year, I know exactly what I’m grateful for: being alive.
“I’ve spent so many years taking life for granted. I made plans for the next day, the next year, always assuming tomorrow was guaranteed.

“What I’ve been through recently has opened my eyes. Life is fragile, and every single moment matters.
“I’m so grateful to God for giving me the strength to keep going and for allowing me to still be here.
“To the emergency services, the NHS, the Air Ambulance, everyone at the Royal London and Cromwell hospitals and everyone from top to bottom at West Ham United FC.
“The medical team, the board, all of the staff, my teammates and the amazing West Ham fans.
“I honestly could not have got through this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Shoppers rush to snap up Primark’s ‘underseat suitcase’ which is perfect for holidays & it has removable wheels
PRIMARK is selling the “perfect underseat suitcase”, which looks ideal if you are planning a weekend getaway.
The perfectly proportioned bag has been designed to fit under the seat in front on a plane if you are trying to save cash on a hold or cabin bag.

The purse-friendly Primark product is a smart choice for anyone flying with budget airlines like Ryanair and Jet2, where luggage rules are notoriously tight.
In recent years, these companies have tightened their baggage policies, allowing passengers to bring only a small underseat bag on board for free.
Any larger bag – even those stored in the overhead compartment – now incur additional fees that can quickly add up.
Primark’s bag measures 40x20x25cm, when its wheels are removed, meaning it’s fully compliant with Ryanair’s underseat baggage dimensions.
It’s also ideal for EasyJet customers, with their under-seat cabin bag’s maximum dimensions being 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including handles and wheels.
The airline claims this size allows you to “bring all the essentials for a short trip.”
Thankfully the Primark bag’s wheels are “easy click”, so they can be detached in seconds on the plane if you need.
The hardshell suitcase even includes a handy bag for storing the wheels during the flight.
Inside the suitcase there are a number of different zipped compartments to make packing easier.
The bags also won’t break the bank, costing just £25 each and saving you having to pay for any luggage on the flight.
For easy transportation to and from the airport, the suitcase has four swivel wheels to make it glide effortlessly no matter the weather or road conditions.
The budget retailer wrote on TikTok: “Holiday season is here.

“Perfect suitcase to fit under the seat with removable wheels.”
The Cardiff branch showed how they had a number of colours available, from chrome grey to rose gold.
If you are not able to get to a Primark, Sun Travel created a guide to their favourite cabin bags, ranging from budget bargains to stylish statement pieces, all of which will make your trip worry-free.

Holiday packing tips
Jemma Solomon, aka The Label Lady has got 5 packing tips to help you get organised for your next holiday.
1. Write a list
Think about all the essentials you need to take with you; suncream, medicine, a few games for the kids, beach towels, and write everything in one list, which you can tick off as you add it to your suitcase.
Or for complete ease, try Google’s AI app – Gemini – which will create a list for you and help you not over pack.
2. Involve your kids
Jemma said: “My girls are getting older, they’re 11 and nine, and they enjoy helping to pack. So I send them a list, and say ‘this is what you need’ and they follow the list.
“And then I give them a rucksack each – and say to them ‘you can have whatever you want in there as long as it’s not liquid’, and they can take that on the plane. And that’s their ‘home away from home’ items.”
3. Try a hack or two
She said: “I think they all work, but for different reasons – and you’ve just got to pick the right one for your trip.
“Rolling your clothes is really good to stop your clothes from getting creases. And if you’re trying to get a lot of items into your case, it’s a space saver.
“Packing cubes are great – for example, I’m going on holiday with my three kids and we’re all using the same suitcase for our clothes.
“These handy compartments let you separate your clothes, toiletries and tech into designated cubes, maximising luggage space by keeping your items compressed and neatly stacked.
“I love taking them abroad with the family and it means my kids can easily take charge of their own items once we’ve arrived.”
4. Decant beauty products
Do you really need to take full-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner with you? The beauty industry has evolved so much, you can now buy shampoo bars or sheets – which are much lighter and smaller.
Or, if you’ll be popping to the shops when you’re abroad, consider buying some items when you arrive.
5. Get organised before you come home
Jemma said: “When you repack on holiday [before coming home], the trick is to separate clean from dirty clothes.
“Also pack it in some form of order – so lights, darks, colours for items that need washing, or if you wash your clothes by person in the household, piles for each person.
“Then you can put it straight into the washing machine. Do it straight away, don’t leave it.”
Britain’s welfare bill is ‘unsustainable, indefensible and unfair’, says Keir as he faces down Labour rebels
BRITAIN’S soaring welfare bill is “unsustainable, indefensible and unfair”, Sir Keir Starmer warned tonight as he faced down a Labour rebellion.
The PM vowed to slash sickness benefits spending to stop it spiralling to £70billion by the end of the decade.

At a late night meeting of MPs – many of whom are threatening a left-wing revolt – he insisted he would not be cowed from acting.
He said: “We’ve found ourselves in a worst of all worlds situation – with the wrong incentives – discouraging people from working, the taxpayer funding a spiralling bill, £70billion a year by 2030.
“A wasted generation. One in eight young people are not in education, employment or training and the people who really need that safety net still not always getting the dignity they deserve.
“That’s unsustainable, it’s indefensible and it is unfair, people feel that in their bones. It runs contrary to those deep British values that if you can work, you should.
“And if you want to work, the government should support you, not stop you.”
Ministers have delayed the benefits announcement until next week as divisions deepen over the welfare shake-up.
Supporters argue Britain has a “moral duty” to rein in soaring sickness benefits, while MPs on the left of the party warn of “draconian cuts” that could push disabled people into poverty.
The crackdown could see 2.4 million claimants required to prepare for work, with hundreds of thousands facing benefit cuts if they refuse.
Ministers also plan to tighten access to personal independence payments, aiming to save over £5 billion, while raising Universal Credit and investing £1 billion in job coaching.
A group of 36 Labour MPs, calling themselves the “Get Britain Working Group,” insist the reforms are “a truly progressive endeavour.”
But dozens on the Left are gearing up to rebel, with Rachael Maskell urging ministers not to “start with the stick.”
Several leading charities, including Disability Rights UK, Citizens Advice, Scope and Sense, also wrote to the Chancellor yesterday urging for a “safeguard” to disability benefits from cuts.
I’m being forced to remove a tiny 90cm fence outside my home by killjoy council who call it an eyesore
A RAGING man has revealed how he was ordered to remove a mere 90cm fence from outside his home by the local council.
Scaffolder David Grange said he was left “baffled” after councillors branded the railing an “eyesore”.

He was stunned when local councillors in the town of Ingleby Barwick rejected plea to keep the fence standing on his property, calling it a “mess”.
The council argued that the fence “spoiled this aesthetic, ruined the street’s spacious feel and would set a precedent if given planning permission”, according to Teesside Live.
A statement on the council’s planning portal read: “Open plan was the original planning to keep an open communal feel with a focus on aesthetics, which this goes against. This will open the door for others to do the same and set a precedent if granted.”
Mr Grange said today: “I just feel it’s really unfair. It really baffles me.”
Authorities initially proposed to approve the fence, saying they found no harm to the area, road safety or neighbours.
Planning services manager Simon Grundy said the fence still allowed for views through it and preserved the area’s sense of openness.
But the proposal attracted disapproval from some councillors on the committee making the final decision.
Councillor Sylvia Walmsley, who was “amazed” by the proposal, said: “It’s an absolute mess. It’s an eyesore. It impacts on the street scene.”
Mr Grundy responded: “Historically we wouldn’t normally want to see walls and fences within open plan estates. Where we have lost appeals in the past, they’ve been where you have railings because you can see through it.”
Cllr Norma Stephenson said: “I think it’s a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’. In my opinion, there’ll be a lot of residents around here who’ll want fencing. If it’s open plan, it’s open plan.
“Once you say yes to one, then it’s a free-for-all. I do agree it’s a mess. It’s not even up straight, for God’s sake. I think if it’s open plan, it’s open plan, and we stick to it.”
Mr Grange said: “We’ll take the railings down and consider appealing this decision or putting bushes in to replace the railings.
“It’s only stuck in the ground. It’s just bought from a garden centre. You wouldn’t even notice the fence, it’s not in your vision.
“By definition it’s not even a fence. A fence is to enclose an area. This is just a strip of metal fencing, there’s a gap.”
CHECK FOR COUNCIL TAX DISCOUNTS
IF you're struggling with your council tax costs, it's worth checking out whether you're entitled to reduce your tax bill, which can save you thousands of pounds.
Some people can even get their bills slashed by 100%, meaning they wouldn’t pay anything at all.
Here are all the other discounts available.
If you’re a pensioner
If you don’t receive the guaranteed credit part of pension credit, you could still get a council tax discount if you have a low income and less than £16,000 in savings.
If you live alone, you will get the 25% reduction, even if you’re not entitled to any benefits.
If you’re a disabled
People with certain disabilities can get a discount of up to 100%. This applies to anyone considered severely mentally impaired (SMI), which includes conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s or learning difficulties resulting from a stroke.
If you’re living with someone affected with an SMI, you could qualify for a discount, too.
To be considered, a GP needs to certify the SMI, and typically, they will need to receive at least one type of benefit, such as attendance allowance or personal independence payments (PIP).
Again, you can check your eligibility or that of a family member and apply on your local council’s website.
If you live alone
If you’re the only adult in your home, you can get a 25% discount on your council tax bill.
This includes if you’re a single parent with children under 18 in the house.
Usually, you’ll need to let your local council know to get the reduction.
Even if other adults are in your home, you might still get the 25% reduction, as some groups of people are “disregarded” for council tax purposes.
If you’re a student
Households where everyone is a full-time student do not have to pay any council tax.
To qualify as a full-time student, your course must:
- Last at least one year
- Involve at least 21 hours study per week
If you’re between 18 and 20 and doing A Levels or equivalent, your course must last at least three months and involve at least 12 hours of study a week.
If there is an adult who is not a student in your household, they will need to pay council tax, but should still qualify for a discount if everyone else is a student.

As they walked out past the other managers, Lineker spotted his former MOTD mate Ian Wright.
The England legend had a wild reaction as he immediately ditched Shearer and Richards to sprint over to Wright, before giving him a huge hug.
Buzaglo was joined by influencers KSI and Chunkz to introduce the teams.
And Chunkz was not impressed by Lineker failing to put on his gameface.
He complained: “I don’t like the niceties, you know? They’re getting too friendly there.”

Sara Davies breaks silence after announcing shock Dragon’s Den exit as star says she struggled to ‘juggle’ busy career
SARA Davies has broken her silence after announcing her shock Dragon’s Den exit.
Entrepreneur Sara, 40, devastated fans this week after revealing she won’t take part in the BBC show’s upcoming series.

Appearing on this evening’s installment of The One Show, the former Strictly star revealed her reason for stepping away, confessing she had struggled to ‘juggle’ her busy career.
Host Alex Jones started by saying, “Now then, Sarah, last week, sad news that you’re leaving the den. I know. That must be a very hard decision because I know how much you love it.”
Sara responded, “It’s who I am. It’s part of my DNA. It’s my life. It’s everything.
“And I’m not going to lie, it was not the easiest decision to make but just trying to juggle everything. You know, when they asked me, I thought, ‘Oh yeah, people do it for a couple of years.'”
She explained how she initially signed on for a short time, saying, “And then they asked us back the third year and then they asked us back the fourth year, and then I just kept doing it.
“And I thought, ‘Do you know what, it’s because Dragon’s is an iceberg.’ You see the little bit of time we’re filming, but all of these businesses that you commit to, I want to give them a piece of me.
“And there’s just not quite enough pieces of me to keep going round. You know, something you have to give at some point.”
Alex responded, “Well, you will be missed. And you’ve had some guest Dragons, which I’ve loved watching. Oh, anybody you think could do it long term?”
Sara thought for a moment before saying, “Do you know, I loved it when Gary was in last year, Gary Neville, and I feel like he really had that, he had the empathy and the warmth that I think I bring to the den.”
The TV presenter, author and businesswoman joined Dragon’s Den in 2019.
At the time she was 35, making her the show’s youngest female Dragon.
She joined following the departure of Jenny Campbell.
Sara wrote on Instagram: “As this last run of Dragons’ comes to an end I have to say I’ve loved every minute of this series so far and I’m so proud of the businesses I’ve invested in this year!
“As a lot of you will know, I’ve taken up my position again as CEO of Crafter’s Companion and my business is my big priority this year.
“And when I commit to a business, I really commit, which is why I find Dragons’ Den such a rewarding role.
“As well as filming an incredible show, being a Dragon requires so much dedication and time behind the scenes as you join the life of each business you invest in.
“It means seeing through your investment and committing to your part in that organisation. It’s so much more than a TV show.
“That’s why I’ve taken the decision to step away from the Den for now, to focus on my own business, which was my first baby!
“So I won’t be filming with the team this year for the next series.”
Sara, from County Durham will continue to be seen on episodes to be shown later this year.
