A NINE-year-old girl has been left in a coma after being struck by a car while crossing the road – with a man arrested over the incident.
Bella Evans sustained serious injuries after the collision in Godley, Greater Manchester, on March 5.
Emergency services raced to the scene around 4pm, including police, paramedics and an air ambulance.
They found the little girl with a fractured spine, fractured pelvis and several small brain bleeds, according to Emma Cooper, a family friend.
However, Bella is now believed to be in a stable condition.
A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, said Greater Manchester Police.
The force is now urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News with permission from Bella’s family, Emma said: “She has been in a coma since Wednesday.
“The hope now is to start bringing her out of sedation tomorrow so they can assess her injuries.
“She needs to have a back brace put on because of the fracture in her spine.
“At this moment in time her parents are being inundated with messages and well wishes which is keeping them going.”
She added that Bella’s parents were “hellbent” on getting a zebra crossing installed in the area – with 1,000 locals already signing an online petition in support of the cause.
The road often frequented by young children as it is close to a nursery, Emma added.
A police spokesperson said: “At 4pm on Wednesday 5 March we were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Mottram Road Hyde between a car and a pedestrian.
“A 9-year-old girl was taken to hospital for further treatment. At this stage, her injuries are thankfully not believed to be life threatening or life changing.
“A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
“Police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
“They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.”
Emma has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Bella’s parents in the wake of the incident – with £1,580 raised so far.
It reads: “As you may have heard a little girl was knocked down in godley on Wednesday evening and is in currently in hospital with serious injuries.
“I know many people have asked and I have spoke to Adele to tell her many people want to support her as I know they are going to be in hospital a while.
“So I wanted to take the pressure off mum and dad having to worry about bills and hotel costs and just concentrate on Bella.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 2211 of March 5, 2025.

LUKE LITTLER was booed by the crowd at the Belgium Darts Open after a stunning piece of “housery”.
Littler, 18, had made it to the final in Wieze to face home favourite Mike de Decker.
Luke Littler surprised himself by hitting two treble 20s for the chance to win the match on a big fishBut Littler disappointed the Belgium Darts Open final crowd by splitting his 170
The world champion soared into a 7-3 lead before De Decker, 29, threatened a comeback by making it 7-5.
However, Littler – who beat Dave Chisnall and James Wade in the quarters and semis – turned up a gear to set up a potential 170 finish.
His next two darts up landed in treble 20, which seemed to surprise the teenager as he pulled a stunned face.
He then went from surprised to mischievous in an instant and despite having the chance to delight the crowd with a big fish finish, he gestured to the baying crowd behind him before hitting a 10.
This left him with a score of 40 to finish the game the next time he approached the oche, with De Decker miles back in terms of score.
The crowd booed Littler as he collected his darts, while a PDC Darts co-commentator chuckled before saying: “Oh my word, the housery from Littler.
“He loves doing that. This is Dave [David] Pallett like in disappointing a crowd on the European Tour.”
The comment refers to when Pallett was set to finish on a 170 in the 2019 German Darts Open, geeing up the crowd to cheer him on after landing two treble 20s, only to hit a safe 18.
Reacting to the move on social media, one fan said: “Splitting the 170 at the end from Littler. He really didn’t want that crowd cheering f*** all did he.”
A second said: “Pure mickey taking.”
A third added: “Never has a man left 170 so much but taken it so few. What a bloke.”
Another said: “What else can you say that’s not already been said? Unplayable at the moment.”
Littler’s victory marked 14 successive wins in just ten days, an incredible run that has also seen him land £150,000 in prize money in the space of a week including the £30,000 prize in Belgium.
Speaking after the match, Littler said: “I’m very happy to retain the title in front of these great fans.
“I said it last year there should be a Premier League here.
“I think on my throw I was really good but Mike on his throw he was good at times. But I had to get in the lead and hit the winning double.
“I said after the World Championships if I don’t win anything throughout the whole year then I’m still a World Champion.
“But I’m obviously happy to win the UK Open and come back here and do it back-to-back. Now it’s ProTours and back to the Premier League.”
