Liverpool vs Newcastle tips

Our Bet Builder selections: Liverpool win, BTTS – No, Mohamed Salah to score and Dominik Szoboszlai to assist at 14/1. ADD TO YOUR BET SLIP HERE!

Back our 14/1 Bet Builder

Here’s why we’ve made those selections..

  • Liverpool win: Liverpool can take confidence from their dominant recent record against Newcastle. The Magpies are winless in their last 17 encounters with the Reds, including their clash at Anfield just 18 days ago. Newcastle have suffered 12 defeats in that spell, conceding 38 goals.
  • BTTS – No: The absence of Anthony Gordon is really damaging, as no Newcastle player comes close to the 49 chances he has created this season. Meanwhile, Lewis Hall, their fourth-highest creator with 34, is also unavailable. In total, Newcastle are without two players responsible for nearly 30% of their Premier League chances this season.
  • Mohamed Salah to score: The Egyptian king, 32, is enjoying another stellar campaign and has a cracking record against Newcastle having scored 10 goals in 17 meetings.
  • Dominik Szoboszlai to assist: The Hungarian international has fashioned 40 opportunities for his teammates in the 2024-25 league campaign, with nine classified as big chances – a figure bettered only by Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Szoboszlai also ranks third for touches in the opposition penalty area and has an expected assists (xA) figure of 4.19.

Liverpool vs Newcastle preview

The first piece of silverware of the season is on the line this Sunday as Liverpool and Newcastle United go head-to-head in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Liverpool, the most successful club in the competition’s history, enter the final as odds-on favourites at 5/8 to retain their crown.

However, their midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain may have taken a toll, with the Reds falling on penalties after a gruelling 120-minute battle.

While hopes of an historic treble have been dashed, manager Arne Slot still has the chance to secure a Premier League and League Cup double in his debut season.

Many of his squad are no strangers to success in this competition, having lifted the trophy twice in the last three years (2022, 2024).

Liverpool can also take confidence from their dominant recent record against Newcastle.

The Magpies are winless in their last 17 encounters with the Reds, including their clash at Anfield just 18 days ago. Newcastle have suffered 12 defeats in that spell, conceding 38 goals.

However, Liverpool will be without key defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley, meaning Jarell Quansah is set to fill in at right-back.

Underdogs Newcastle are also dealing with significant absences as they aim to end a 70-year wait for major silverware.

Winger Anthony Gordon is suspended following his red card against Brighton in the FA Cup, while Lewis Hall is sidelined until next season with a foot injury.

The Magpies will be eager to make amends for their 2023 final defeat to Manchester United.

While they return to London buoyed by their recent victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, they had lost three of their previous four matches before that win.

Liverpool vs Newcastle preview betting tips and predictions

Win to Nil

Liverpool’s dominance over Newcastle United is nothing short of remarkable. The Reds have won 12 of their last 17 encounters with the Magpies and have not suffered defeat against them since 2015.

Arne Slot’s side are no strangers to the big occasion, having contested multiple Wembley finals in the past decade—winning the majority. Their attacking prowess is evident, boasting 14 more goals than any other Premier League side this season (69), while only Arsenal have conceded fewer shots on target, goals, and have a lower expected goals conceded (xGC).

With Newcastle missing key players, Liverpool will look to assert control from the outset. The absence of Anthony Gordon is particularly significant, as no Newcastle player comes close to the 49 chances he has created this season. Meanwhile, Lewis Hall, their fourth-highest creator with 34, is also unavailable.

In total, Newcastle are without two players responsible for nearly 30% of their Premier League chances this season. While Alexander Isak remains a clinical finisher, he is likely to find himself starved of service.

Assist

Dominik Szoboszlai looks a generous price at 5/1 to register an assist in Sunday’s final.

The Liverpool midfielder, 24, has recorded six assists in 39 appearances this season – though that tally could easily have been higher given the number of chances he has created.

The Hungarian international has fashioned 40 opportunities for his teammates in the 2024-25 league campaign, with nine classified as big chances – a figure bettered only by Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Szoboszlai also ranks third for touches in the opposition penalty area and has an expected assists (xA) figure of 4.19.

Salah, at 9/4, may be the safer bet, but Szoboszlai offers real value. When these sides met just 18 days ago, he provided two key passes, got on the scoresheet and was named player of the match.

Wombat snatcher Sam Jones flees Australia in shame after kidnapping baby… and could be BANNED from ever going back

A DISGRACED American influencer has fled Australia after viral footage showing her kidnapping a baby wombat caused the Prime Minister to blast her behaviour.

Montana-based hunting influencer Sam Jones left the country on Friday morning after her social media post ignited an online fury among Australians.

Her online post sparked fury among livid Australians and multiple politicians[/caption]

Aussie PM Anthony Albanese even hit back at the woman, as he threatened: “Try taking a baby crocodile from its mother and see how you go there.”

Home affairs minister Tony Burke also said that immigration authorities were checking her visa conditions to see if she had breached them.

The minister said that he couldn’t “wait to see the back of this individual” and authorities were “working through the conditions” on the woman’s visa to determine “whether immigration law has been breached”.

The defiant minister added: “There has never been a better day to be a baby wombat in Australia.”

An online petition also gained over 30,000 signatures demanding that the influencer be deported from the country

According to the BBC, however, Jones was not charged or deemed a threat to the country, and reports that the government might revoke her visa have not come true yet.

Shocking footage of Jones kidnapping a baby wombat from its mother sparked online fury in a social media post which has since been deleted.

In the video, she approaches the wombat joey as it walks with its mother before she suddenly takes it and runs back to the cameraman.

The wombat can be seen struggling whilst its alarmed mother runs after the influencer.

Jones proclaims whilst she holds the distressed animal: “I caught a baby wombat!”

The cameraman even points out in the video: “Look at the mother, it’s chasing after her.”

Jones replies in the video: “OK mama’s right there and she is p***ed, let’s let him go.”

The post was met with an influx of backlash – but this is not the first time the social media star has caught attention before for her animal interactions.

Cowboy State Daily reported her goal of hunting her first black bear during spring bear season in Wyoming, and described her “stalking red stags with a bow in Chile”, and “slaying a wild pig with a knife in New Zealand”.

Who is Sam Jones?

Sam Jones, from Montana, U.S., is a hunting influencer with nearly 100,000 followers on Instagram.

She describes herself as an “outdoor enthusiast” and a “hunter”.

The star has since deleted her controversial post and made her account private.

She also claims to be a “wildlife biologist” and “environmental scientist” with an MSc degree.

She has since deleted her TikTok account and made her Instagram private.

A new account which claims to be Jones was set up, and it said she was “really sorry about the wombat incident” and that it was a “mistake”.

And on Thursday, the account posted another message saying that the “hate was too much for me to handle”.

The account added: “You guys are insane. I get hundreds of death threats for picking up an animal. WT*? Imagine someone just goes up to your child and curses at them? Let’s have some respect.”

Responding to the backlash of her more recent engagement with the helpless wombat, Jones defended herself and claimed she only held the joey momentarily before returning it to its mother.

She wrote: “For everyone that’s worried and unhappy, the baby was carefully held for ONE minute in total and then released back to mum.

“They wandered back off into the bush together completely unharmed. I didn’t think I would be able to catch it in the first place, and took an opportunity to appreciate a really incredible animal up close.”

Livid Australians demanded that Jones be reported to the Australian Department of Home Affairs “so they can ban her from ever stepping foot in Australia again”, before she eventually fled.

She was also slammed by RSCPA Australia who said the footage showed a “blatant disregard” for native wildlife, and that the distress to the baby and its mum caused by the “callous act” was clear.

US fast food chain to open 20 sites in the UK with the first opening in months

THE UK’s fast food scene is set to welcome another American sensation.

Captain D’s has announced plans to open 20 restaurants across the country.

The chain’s hand batter-dipped fish is a classic fan-favourite

This expansion follows the successful launch of US favourites Popeyes, Chick-fil-A and Dave’s Hot Chicken in the UK.

Captain D’s is a prominent fast-food restaurant chain in the United States, renowned for its seafood offerings.

The brand is celebrated for its hand-battered fish and indulgent seafood platters.

These feature an array of dishes such as crispy butterfly shrimp, crab shells stuffed with seafood, and even a dozen fried oysters available as a side option.

Additionally, the chain is well-known for its hush puppies – small, savoury, deep-fried balls made from a cornmeal-based batter that perfectly complement its seafood dishes.

Captain D’s has officially signed a 20-unit master franchise agreement to introduce its restaurants to the United Kingdom, marking the brand’s inaugural foray into the European market.

The expansion is advancing rapidly, with plans for the first UK location to open in Kent by August 2025.

However, the precise site of the debut restaurant remains unconfirmed, as the chain is still in the process of negotiating a lease for an undisclosed location.

Following the Kent opening, further restaurants are expected to launch soon after in Sussex and Hampshire, paving the way for Captain D’s growth across the region.

Naveed Chattha, operations director of CDs Holdings, said: “We have been looking for the right brand to introduce to the UK market, which is exciting and healthy.

“There is a large fish and chips market in the UK, but no one has tried to apply discipline, standards, and quality to such a level here before. With our experience, we feel Captain D’s is the right choice.”

US fast food chains expand into the UK

Captain D’s is just one of a number of US fast food chains opening branches across the UK.

The burger joint Wendy’s is already a hit in the US with over 6,000 restaurants.

Now the chain that “blows McDonald’s out of the water” has plans to open 400 locations.

The chain returned to the UK high street in 2021 after a 20-year hiatus.

Wendy’s is most famous for its square-shaped hamburgers, which are designed to maximise the amount of meat in every bite.

Major US fast food chain Chick-fil-A is opening branches across the UK this year too, including in Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and London.

The Sun exclusively revealed the exact locations of their first five UK restaurants.

Tex-Mex brand Velvet Taco will also making its UK debut in the spring.

Popeyes entered the UK market in 2021 and has proved to be a hit with ravenous customers ever since.

In just 30 months, the brand opened over 38 restaurants across the UK.

It has plans to reach the 60-restaurant milestone by the end of 2024.

Shake Shack, which started out as a hotdog cart, recently opened its first restaurant inside a UK train station.

Brits commuting in St. Pancras International Station can now grab their favourite burgers before jumping onto their train.

The new spot marks the fast food giant’s 16th location in the UK since it was launched in Covent Garden in 2013.

While most of Shake Shack’s UK sites are based in London, bosses have expanded into other locations in recent years, including EssexOxford, and Cardiff.

Shake Shack’s humble beginnings trace back to a New York hot dog cart helmed by Randy Garutti.

Wingstop, which currently has 57 sites across the UK, revealed plans in January to open 20 more before the end of 2025.

Wingstop UK said at least 10 new locations will open in the first half of the year.

Branches will pull up their shutters in SwanseaEssex and London, among other spots.

Popeyes is also eyeing up opening 45 locations in the UK this year after pulling up the shutters on 33 sites in 2024.

The fast-food joint, which is famous for its Louisiana-style chicken burgers and tenders, first came to the UK in 2021, opening a site in Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.

But it now intends to expand across the UK, including in cities like Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol.

Dunkin’ Donuts, which currently has 30 stores in the UK, hopes to open 30 new branches over the next couple of years as part of a major expansion plan.

Dunkin’ Donuts landed in the UK in St John’s in Liverpool in May 2016.

The chain is huge in the US, with almost 9,500 stores spread across the country.

It sells a range of doughnuts, other sweet treats, and hot and cold drinks.
