A brand new blockbuster described as ‘Jurassic Park on acid’ has completely baffled viewers.

Death of a Unicorn is the latest horror/comedy film from A24 that has been dividing fans.

The story follows Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as a father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn.

The unicorn body is taken to a scientific research centre but drama unfolds as the parents of the slaughtered unicorn hunt down the culprits and those exploiting their child.

The premise is baffling and a teaser trailer – which sells the film as a drugged-up version of the iconic 90s film franchise – has completely baffled fans.

While some can’t wait to watch the completely original movie, others think it’s set to be the biggest flop of the year.

Reviewers have praised the film as ‘quirky and violent’ with fabulous comedic timing – specifically praising some of the supporting cast members including Will Poulter- best known for We’re The Millers and The Bear.

‘Death of a Unicorn is the deadly unicorn creature feature comedy I didn’t know I was missing. Quirky, funny, violent and mythological with just enough family drama to make you care. If you’ve been waiting to see unicorns 🦄 people kill…the wait is almost over 👍🏻,’ said kirkneverdied on X.

‘Can definitely say I’ve never seen a slasher like Death of a Unicorn. went in with zero expectations and had a blast with the very unconventional killers and crazy deaths (that the audience went WILD for). also: we need Will Poulter in more comedies!! #SXSW,’ said catrcardenas.

‘A24s Death of A Unicorn is Jurassic park but with unicorns and hints of cosmic horror! Hilarious, wild, and truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Will Poulter is the standout here whose comedic timing is truly impeccable! See this one in theaters!’ said According2seth.

Despite praise on X from those who had an early screening of the film, the movie has only earned a 63% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.

Death of a Unicorn is in cinemas on March 28.
